Gasteiger Jakob Untitled, 5.1.2010 Acrylic on canvas Signed, dated and stamped Verso 23,6 x 19,7 in The relief-like structure of this monochrome picture is created by using a comb spatula when applying the paint. In this work process, color is not used as a carrier of content or meaning, but as material per se. In his works, Gasteiger questions parameters of painting and thematizes, expands and breaks through the boundaries of graphics, painting and sculpture.

Rare George III ash and elm primitive comb back Windsor chair, probably West Country, circa 1800, with shaped top rail over eight upper spindles, 'crinoline' arms with sixteen spindles and two shaped arm supports beneath, and broad D-shaped saddle seat on four splayed turned supports, 61cm wide x 105cm high For a similar example, see Cotton, Bernard D., The English Regional Chair, ACC, 2001, p.262, Figure SW8. Condition: Minor cracking to top rail where some spindles peg into the base, one dowel peg loose. Typical minor losses to top edge of top rail. Crinoline arms are well worn and patinated with old worm scarring particularly evident to one arm. Very old loss to rear edge of seat, typical cracking and figuring as per images. A green painted 'comb' back Windsor chair, second half 18th century, possibly Irish, the curved rectangular top rail above turned spindle supports the 'horseshoe' arms, above the solid seat, carved with ownership initials 'S*' to the side edge, on turned legs, joined by an X-shaped stretcher, 92cm high, 66cm wide, 51cm deep In addition to the 'S' carved to the side of the seat, the letter 'W' has also been carved twice to one arm terminal.Condition Report: Marks, scratches and abrasions, old chips and splits comensurate with age and use. Some old losses. Some old repairs. In some very small areas where the paint has been worn, fragments of a red coloured paint are visible. Where the stretchers to the legs cross eachother, they have been tied in a 'primitive' manner. It is impossible to tell how old this string is, it may not be original. In addition to the 'S' carved to the side of the seat, the letter 'W' has also been carved twice to one arm terminal (see additional images). No old breaks to the legs. The chair is of solid structure. As one may expect from a 'primitive' chair, it does not sit perfectly straight and some movement and wear to the legs and structure has occurred over time. This chair is part of the Phillip Lucas collection. Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition. Condition Report Disclaimer
