Late 19th Century walnut and marquetry Polyphon, probably Schutz Marke, retailed by Douglas & Co, South St, London, the hinged rectangular cover with inlaid rosewood floral panel to centre enclosing printed vignette of children over cast bed-plate and 16.5cm complete comb playing 39.5cm discs, together with six discs, overall 53cm x 48cm x 29cm high Condition: Some damp spotting to hinge cover, internal label is considerably flaked and the name is eligible, general water spotting to body, discs have general wear, sold as seen - **General condition consistent with age
*Sampler. A large sampler by Harriet Bayliss, mid 18th century, worked in fine cross-stitch on linen, with alphabets, numerals, and a verse 'On Industry', with stitched legend beneath 'Harriet Bayliss her work finished in the 10th year of her age June the twenty 4th', surrounded by a variety of pictorial motifs, including a large house, two pairs of male and female figures, each carrying a pitchfork, stags, putti, dogs, birds (including peacocks), trees, stars, butterflies, and flower urns, predominantly in shades of grey, pink, yellow, green, and brown, linen toned and with some minor wear just visible to blank edge, 51.5 x 51.5cm (20.25 x 20.25ins), framed and glazed A large early sampler in good condition. The verse reads: 'The industrious bee extracts from every flower/Its fragrants sweet and mild blaspheme power/Learn hence with greatest care and nicest skill/To take the good and to reject the ill/By her examble[sic] taught enrich thy mind/With native eloquence and sence[sic] refined/Be thou the honey comb in whom may dwell/Each mental sweet nor leave one vacant cell'. 7th The Princes Dragoons Guards 1834 Officer’s helmet.A rare and impressive gilt example worn circa 1834-1837 only. The sides and rear peak ornamented with applied floral scrollwork, the comb with oakleaf decoration. To the front, a triangular rayed plate bearing applied Hanovarian Royal Arms. Between the base of the plate and the top of the peak, a gilt band inscribed “THE PRINCES DRAGOON GUARDS”. Either side, a large rose head boss to support the ornate chin scales, these with leather backing. The comb, with provision for detachable bearskin crest, now complete with its detachable impressive ornate lion head ornament. Lining to the interior absent. VGC

Comprising two brushes, a hand mirror and a comb.Condition report intended as a guide only.Comb missing numerous teeth. The brushes and hand mirror cracked across the tortoiseshell near the handle. Some splits to the silver. Brush bristles with heavy loss.

Carpet by the Ersari Turkmen of Beshir, Turkmenistan, 19th century, 8ft. 8in. x 4ft. 6in. 2.44m. x 1.37m. Overall wear; slightly heavier in some places; fabric tape to each end verso. The field filled with a mosaic of all-over stepped triangular motifs; narrow rosette main border with an inner border on the left hand side of double ended 'comb' motifs which does not appear on the right hand side. cf. Jourdan, U. op. cit. p. 308, pl. 288 for a similar carpet with panelled design.THIS LOT IS AN ADDITION TO THE SALE AND DOES NOT APPEAR IN THE PRINTED CATALOGUE.
