the two piece skull with overlapped and riveted seam, hinged visor drawn out to a peak and with face guard composed of three square section bars drawn down to a turned finial, scrolling S-bar inserts, the neck guard of three simulated lames, perforations to edge, together with another similar with raised comb, the visor lacking the three-bar face guard, the neck guard of three simulated lames and indistinct maker's stamp, both lacking their ear-defences. the two-piece skull with raised turned comb, rivet decoration to the base of the skull, downturned broad brim with turned edge and struck with the inventory stamp of JRII. Circa 1645, retains most of its black protective finish to the inside. Small split to the skull. See Pg 19 The London Armourer's of the 17th Century for a discussion about this stamp's retrospective use as an indicator of its presence in the Tower of London.

comprising lobster tailed pot the two-piece skull with shallow turned comb, the neckguard of three simulated lames, shallow gulley with turned edge, the rounded peak or visor with similar gulley and turned edge, adjustable nasal bar, pierced ear defences, together with its companion breast and back plates, the former with raised medial ridge drawn down to a shallow peak, linear decoration about the rounded neck and arm apertures, struck with an N over 139 over RR3 for the Commonwealth, the back plate struck with an armourer's mark flanked by N and A for the Commonwealth, re-leathered straps, and complete with its bridle gauntlet, the upper aperture with turned edge and linear engraved decoration tapering down to the articulated hand defence composed of five articulated lames terminating in the knuckle plate. Mounted on its wooden display frame.

Lot 392

the two-piece skull with tall roped comb, the sides embossed with a fler-de-lys, the base of the skull with eight of its ten fancy foliate brass rivets, sharply down turned brim drawn out to a peak at either end and with crimped turned brim, retains good traces of original blacked finish. Circa 1580. Small area of lamination and parting to the comb.

the two-piece skull with raised roped comb, chased and embossed with grimacing faces, the skull embossed and chased with knights on horseback in battle amidst a castellated mountainous landscape, the visor with elongated sights and drawn out to a point, decorated to match and with roped extremities, the upper bevor pierced with circular breaths to either side and similarly decorated to match, the lower bevor decorated with stands of arms and laurel wreaths, the neck guard embossed with a broad gully with scrolling foliage on a stippled ground and a further stand of arms to the front.
