A 19th century mahogany and brass mounted Campaign officer's shaving case, the hinged lid with a shield shape plaque engraved with a monogram, the interior with pull-out mirror to the lid revealing a hone and a comb, above a lift-out tray fitted with scissors, razors, a penknife, a tongue scraper and other utensils, the base with boot-pulls, a bow corkscrew, brushes and two silver topped jars and a glass scent bottle, 6.7cm high, 11.4cm wide, 26.5cm deep. Provenance: The Dr Lawrie Webster Collection of Boxes.
A fireman’s brass helmet c 1910 of the London Fire Brigade, with binding to front peak and extended back peak, ear to ear helmet plate bearing crossed axe and fire beaters at each end with LCC/LFB (London County Council, London Fire Brigade) on central escutcheon, ornamental comb embossed with a dragon in panel on each side, and stylized scrolls and ventilation holes in front, leather backed graduated link chinchain and ear rosettes, leather liner with wearers names in ink “HV Carrington” and “L.F. Bagshot”. Good Condition, a good example. Plate 1
A French dragoon’s brass helmet, c 1830, tall brass skull with front and back peaks, leather backed wire loop chinchain with rayed ear roundels, “frosted” ear to ear plate and back band, the front embossed with a large grenade in wreaths, tall comb with Medusa head finial and palm wreath in front, and inverted tear drop embossed side panels, red (faded) “shaving brush” plume in holder, black hair crest and tail plume, white feather side plume, leather and cloth liner (replaced). Good Condition (plumes replaced). Plate 15
A Third Reich Fireman’s steel helmet, with aluminium comb and 2 pairs of 7 hole vents on each side, the black finish with Civil Police double decals, with padded skull, pale leather lining with maker’s stamp and part only of chinstrap. Basically GC (rust patches overall, some wear to lining). Fireman’s helmets were commonly re-issued to Civil Police.

1930s seven piece silver and pink guilloche enamel dressing table set, comprising two pairs brushes, hand mirror, comb and cut glass powder bowl (Birmingham 1929 / 1935), together with a pair of cut glass toilet bottles with silver and guilloche enamel collars and cut glass stoppers (London 1932), toilet bottles 21cm overall height (9) CONDITION REPORT Dressing table set - general overall condition good, silver mounts are good, guilloche enamel has surface damage. Comb is distorted and has two broken teeth, powder bowl glass is undamaged. Toilet bottles - general overall condition good, silver mounts have minor dents, enamel is damaged on one bottle. Glass bottles are good but both bases have had edges chamfered. Stoppers have minor nicks to cut areas and bolts are damaged where they enter the bottles. One bottle is damaged inside the neck
A Funerary helm, composed from parts of various ages, the two piece skull with raised and turned comb, various patched repairs and probably 16th Century, separate associated pivoting visor with drawn out peak and turned edge, the bevor pierced to either side with seven ventilation holes, single broad riveted gorget plate, the comb with crude spike. Generally worn.
