(52.5cm) wide, the cylinder 10 1/2in. (27cm).Plays smoothly, all teeth and tips present, some scratching & deterioration to case, superficial corrosion visible on comb, no evidence of restoration

An Interesting 'Minor Overture' Key-Wind Musical Box probably by Lecoultre (mid-period) or Ducommun Girod (first serial batch), circa 1837-40, Serial No. 11755, with standard pinned cylinder and single-section comb of 153 teeth, playing three overture passages - Gustave [III] by Auber, Les Deu[x] Reines by Hyppolyte Monpou, and La Somnambula by Bellini, listed on the later large Geo. Bendon crest tunesheet beneath which is seen the original metal plaque screw holes, inscribed with importer's details Shindel & Co., S. Brideswell St., Bristol and 120, single-spring motor on plain brass bedplate, in plain polished end-flap walnut case of excellent colour - the case width 15.3/4in. (40cm), the cylinder length 8.1/8in. (20.8cm), the cylinder diameter 2.3/8in. (6cm).Appears on the MBSGB Musical Box Register, confirmed Jan '23, No. 8363, and previously sold as lot 96 in September 1983, Sotheby's, London.Classed as a 'Minor Overture' due to the proportions of the cylinder, it would appear from the tunesheet replacement that this was imported to England by the Bristol agents as detailed in around 1880.Plays smoothly, all teeth and tips present, general wear constant with age/use, appear to be all original parts
