ALEX MARTIN 12-BORE 'RIBLESS' BOXLOCK EJECTOR, serial no. 6880, 28in. nitro 'ribless' barrels, tubes engraved 'ALEX MARTIN. GLASGOW. ALSO EDINBURGH, ABERDEEN & STIRLING', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp cyl and 3/4 choke, treble-grip action profusely engraved with fine scrolls and beaded borders, retaining some original colour-hardening and finish, 15 1/2in. figured stock including 2in. wood extension, weight 6lb. 8oz. The gun was completed circa 1949 Footnote: The reasoning behind the unusual 'ribless' construction according to Alex Martin was that the guns were "lighter, stronger and better balanced than guns of ordinary construction". Other virtues he extolled in relation to the gun were that as a good quantity of 'unnecessary' weight is removed, the gun is lighter to the fore, promoting more control, an easier swing (and less work for the left arm). Furthermore, a potential area of undetected corrosion, between the ribs, is eliminated.
