Dating from 918 through 1395 CE. The underside with a paper label with the number8477.09. The thin-walled pear-form body with a tapering cylindrical neck continuingto an out-turned rim, on a raised circular foot, the body and neck with a series ofconcentric narrow ridges, caused by brazing several spun sections together to form thevessel, (see cf. below), the overall patina a moss green with a silvery tint inareas. (Cond. areas of the surface with sediment/mineralbuild-up, minor imperfections to rim)cf. The offered vessel relates directly to a group of vessels unearthed this century from the tombs of theKoryo Dynasty nobles. Examples exist at the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, the Freerer Gallery,Washington, DC. and the National Museum of Korea. The method of construction on the offered vessel, and for those referred to above, is conveyed in an Ars Orientalis article, Vol. 44, Charlotte Horlyck , “TheEternal Link; Grave Goods of the Koryo Kingdom”. “Bronze vessels [those referred to above] are typically in the form of wide-shouldered or pear-shapedbottles. Some were cast, but others [such as the offered vessel] were spun by mounting a small bronzecylinder on a lathe-like device and drawing the malleable metal out to its final shape while it rotated athigh speed. This technique permitted thinner walls, making vessels lighter and requiring smaller amountsof bronze. Typical of spun bottles are the concentric lines that appear on the body. Pear-shaped bottlestend to have been made in several sections, which were brazed together, resulting in raised lines on thesurface.”

Fine Chinese Carved Sandstone Bodhisattva. Possibly, Northern Wei Dynasty, or a later Ming/Qing copy. Seated atop a platform in a layered long robe, with concentric folds of a lighter fabric clinging to each leg, which is crossed at the ankles, the deities braided hair exposed beneath a headdress with a Buddha image, arms poised in Abhaya Mudra, right hand held upright with the palm facing forward in a gesture of allaying fears, two felines flank the platform. cf. A sandstone Bodhisattva, 460-480 AD. Metropolitan Museum, NY. (22.134) is closely related to the sandstone Bodhisattva being offered here. Each sculpture shares in posture, gesture, headdress, and presentation of drapery. Specifically, the distinctive folds that seem to cling and overlap upon the deity’s crossed legs. The Museum dates it’s figure to 460/480 AD and compares it to the figures excavated in the Caves at Yungang, Shanxi Province, China. Another, Bodhisattva from the Norman A. Kurland Collection, exhibited, Eskenazi, London, Six Dynasties, Art from the Kurland Collection, (cover illus.) November 2018, shares iconography with both the Met’s Bodhisattva and the offered example. Although differences abound in hand positions and facial features, the slimer outline of abdomen and waist, on both the Kurland and the offered example, further strengthens an association between the three Bodhisattvas. Superbly presented Vantage in a simply gorgeous colour scheme with less than 19,000 miles and AMOC Concours success.Aston Martin introduced the long-awaited Vantage version of their successful DB7 in 1999. Sporting a Cosworth-designed, 5.9-litre V12 producing 420bhp, the car was super-quick and was electronically limited to 185mph. The V12 had a serious appetite for air compared to its six-cylinder predecessor, demanding a larger intake and other modifications to the frontal airflow were made to aid cooling. Other changes included chassis and braking upgrades to cope with the increased performance, and Ian Callum enlarged the grille, added fog lamps, and restyled the valances to give the car a more purposeful look.It may be a contentious statement, but few cars of the same era command the presence by engine note of a Ferrari, the subtle design of a Porsche and the interior refinement of a Rolls-Royce in the same way as the Aston Martin DB7 Vantage does. It is also an industry quirk that any V12-engined grand tourer is best suited to coachwork resplendent in darker colours and a lighter interior, with British cars appointed naturally in the finest of leather and wood. All of which are beautifully represented by this 2001 Aston Martin Vantage which was delivered new on 27th January 2001 in Mendip Blue with Pacific Parchment hide by Grange Aston Martin, to the first of just two keepers, as confirmed by the accompanying V5C. The cherished registration 'X2 AML' was issued at the same time and remains with the car, in continuation of the car’s history. Before we get to the car’s exceptional service history we note that records show the car‘s next, and current, keeper is recorded on the 6th September 2014.The service history has a recorded 19 stamps, with notations of the mileage at each service and the last 13 services were carried out by noted Aston Martin specialists, Chiltern Aston Centre Ltd of Hemel Hempstead. The most recent of these was recorded on the 17th July 2021 at 18,394 miles when a new ignition coil and fuel pumps were fitted. The car was entered into the 2018 Aston Martin Owners Club Spring Concours at Englefield House, Reading and won the Bloxham Medal for Best In Class, the medal naturally accompanies the car, and it is our proud duty to report that not only was the score an impressive 96.5 out of 100, but among the top three awarded scores issued that day to any Aston Martin taking part in the Concours. The history file accompanying the car confirms receipted maintenance and official representation of mileage and corresponding services by the well stamped service book, whilst the MOT is valid until July 2023.In our opinion, this motor car is unmatched in terms of luxury, heritage and performance by any contemporary model for sale today. It is eminently suitable for mature enthusiasts, first time owner-drivers or a collector, all of whom will appreciate the condition, low mileage and AMOC-winning pedigree of a modern classic that is as enjoyable to drive as it is to look at.SpecificationMake: ASTON MARTINModel: VANTAGEYear: 2001Chassis Number: SCFAB12321K301422 Registration Number: X2 AMLTransmission: AutomaticEngine Number: AM201461 Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 18629 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Pacific Parchment LeatherClick here for more details and images
A superbly engineered machine, UK-delivered, just 39,000 miles and hugely capable. The letters ‘STI’ hold a special sort of appeal for many Subaru Impreza enthusiasts. Think of ‘Subaru Technica International’ as the go-faster wing of Subaru much as M is to BMW, AMG is to Mercedes or, more accurately, Ralliart is to Mitsubishi. STI-badged Imprezas command serious respect and the officially imported UK cars are always in big demand. It's fair to say that October 2000 was a significant month for Impreza owners. Out went the much-loved original shape car and in came the revised bug-eyed edition. The reception was frosty to say the least, as Subaru realised that the styling wasn't to the taste of hardcore fans and moved quickly with the launch of the Impreza UK300 which offered compound headlamps, bigger spoilers, and the option of a Prodrive WR kit that boosted power to 245bhp. The UK300 was an instant hit and Subaru UK subsequently introduced the Impreza STi at the 2001 Frankfurt show. Debuting in British showrooms in January 2002, the STI, a car that was launched with 261bhp and the option of a standard car or one with bigger Prodrive-designed spoilers, grille, and front bumper. Both were badged 'Type-UK' to differentiate them from parallel imported models. The 2002 Paris Motor Show saw the release of the facelifted Impreza with much of the credit going to Prodrive and the designer of the McLaren F1, Peter Stevens. With revised front wings, shapelier headlights, a more aggressive bumper and front grille, a re-sculpted bonnet and revised rear light clusters, it was a far more cohesive design than its predecessor and sales soon picked up again, especially as its key rival, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VII, had just been toned down from its Evo VI heyday. Almost immediately Prodrive announced a performance pack for the STI offering a full 300bhp. A 2003 facelift saw the controversial bug-eye headlamps replaced and a raft of other changes brought in.Introduced at the 2001 Frankfurt Show, the STI is powered by a 265bhp 2.0-litre flat four engine, but don't be fooled into thinking that it's merely a case of plugging in a more aggressive engine management chip or a bucket-sized turbocharger. The later 2003 facelifted car followed the same theme with revised suspension and a few engine tweaks. Nearly 80% of the STI's all-alloy powerplant is unique. The piston head was reshaped to form tougher semi-closed-deck cylinder blocks. Screw-in conrods and forged pistons combine with shimless valve lifters, sodium-filled exhaust valves and hollow valve intakes. Every moving part is either stronger, lighter or both. This reduces inertia and gives the engine a manic free-revving feel that's missing from the standard WRX. A larger intercooler and air intake help keep things from meltdown, and a water spray has been fitted to the intercooler that is operated by the driver via a dash-mounted button. Serious stuff.Differences to the regular WRX include special gold-coloured spoked alloy wheels, colour-keyed sill spoilers and an interior featuring blue suede-effect seats with STI logos and red stitching for the steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake lever. Also, inside - and sure to please enthusiasts - is a switch to spray the intercooler with water. Another device allows the driver to pre-set a warning buzzer and light to guard against over-revving the engine. On opening the bonnet, the engine compartment greets owners with a dramatic mixture of colours and detailing. The intake manifold, for example, is painted in red and the enlarged aluminium intercooler emblazoned with STI lettering. In addition, the STI Prodrive Style features a massive high-riding boot spoiler, newly designed sill spoilers and a deeper, squarer front bumper. The grille and badging resemble the WRC rally car. Interior enhancements over the standard STI include dark blue-coloured instruments with red needles. Four colours were available: WR Blue Mica, Blue Black Mica, Premium Silver Metallic and Pure White, the latter two being available to special order only. The car presented here is a 2003 Subaru Impreza WRX-STI Type UK which has built on its very sound standard specification and been further enhanced for even more performance and fast driving acumen. The discerning older owner of this special car, a renowned figure in motoring circles, has improved this car with superb engineering carried out by proper specialists. Last seen in Spectre, this is one seven built for the snow scenes and the only one to have taken on Bond in battle. In 1962, over a winning hand of Chemin-de-Fer, a secret agent introduced himself and twenty-five films later he needs no introduction. By the third film, 1964’s Goldfinger, the franchise had found its footing and 007 his car, the Aston Martin DB5. The title song’s opening chorus “Goldfinger, He's the man, the man with the Midas touch” as belted out by Shirley Bassey, is relevant today as it can be argued that any car featured in the long-running film series has the Midas touch. Values of the Aston Martin DB5 have skyrocketed since the re-introduction of the model in Daniel Craig’s first outing as James Bond in 2006’s Casino Royale. It had a starring role in 2012’s Skyfall and featured in the closing credits of the 2015 film Spectre.Sam Mendes, the director of both Skyfall and Spectre wanted a spectacular snow chase scene and turned to Jaguar Land Rover to assist. With the standard Land Rover 110 Defender deemed a bit too bland for the baddy’s getaway car they turned to leading Land Rover modifiers, Bowler. The firm transformed 10 standard production, Santorini Black, crew-cab 110s into the SVX Concept or Spectre Defender. The cars featured huge 37-inch tyres, heavy-duty roll cages plus toughened suspensions with rose joints and Bilstein rally dampers. A hydraulic handbrake was installed, and its lever repositioned. The engine was tuned to give 180 bhp and Recaro seats fitted. The Land Rovers fell into two categories for the chase sequence, high-speed getaway road cars and low-speed snow cars. This particular Land Rover was developed for the snow scene and given the way in which some of these cars were used during filming, it is unsurprising that not all survived intact with three cars out of the original ten apparently destroyed. This particular car enjoyed the most spectacular demise of all, ending up being rolled into a ball by Bond's wingless Britten-Norman Islander as it emerged from the barn still travelling at speed prior to the aircraft gently T-boning the following Range Rover containing the female lead, Léa Seydoux. It was initially assumed that the Defender was damaged beyond repair but apparently not, as when it was returned to Bowlers, they felt that the damage was lighter than it appeared and, £46,000 later, it's back as good as new. It has still only covered 35 kilometres and was UK registered this year. It will be MOT tested prior to the sale. There are a number of replica Spectre Defenders available on the market but, that's what they are, replicas, and what we have here is the real deal on offer at No Reserve and like anything with genuine Bond movie provenance, there will always be a ready market. Just under 34,000 miles with only two previous keepers, this wholly original example is as good as it looks. This is a 1988 Ford Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth (2WD) and is in super original, unmolested condition. First registered on 2nd December 1988, this superb Moonstone Blue example has covered just under 34,000 miles with only two previous owners (both within the same family). A combination of diligent ownership (without extensive modification), minimal use and sheer preservation, now means this Fast Ford is in collector-quality condition. In 1988, the car’s original owner kept it for two years, covering some 15,000 miles, before selling it to a 60-year-old politician, who only used it on special occasions. Upon sadly passing away aged 73, he passed the car onto his son, a garage-owner and mechanic (supported by a letter in the car’s history file). The son maintained the car, only driving it a handful of times to attend some car shows, it mostly being tucked away in dry storage, covered up and only retrieved out for the occasional clean and polish. Having been in the same family for 30 years, the car was subsequently sold in 2021 to our Ford-enthusiast vendor, who fully appreciated its low mileage, wholesomeness, and sheer originality. To wholly ensure this was the case, prior to buying, he had it inspected, and sure enough, the paint was factory-consistent on all panels. Likewise, the panels themselves were straight and true, whilst the wheels and exterior trim were all in original condition, with the spare wheel and jack having never been used. The interior also was in a fine state of preservation, without the regularly seen bolster wear or dashboard cracking. A very fine place to be to experience one of best analogue driving experience of the last 40 years, the 2WD making this all the more visceral.Keen to get the car back up to full health, he spent just over £5,000 to recommission it, including a full service, timing belt discs and pads to the front and rear, new track control arm bushes and drop links, fuel regulator, OEM Graham Goode exhaust system, handbrake cables and new brake calipers on all four corners. The car was now in excellent order, with everything that needed to be done attended to. In standard form, the red-top non-CAT Cosworth engine of the 2WD Sapphires produces 201bhp, with this car benefiting from a (fully reversible) Stage 1 ECU chip upgrade, helping the fuelling, whilst also giving a modest power increase to 248bhp. Having been a proud custodian of this special Ford, with it covering a meagre 200 miles or so since 2018, our vendor has decided to sell it to allow for the purchase of another car.The car comes with previous MOT certificates, plus its handbooks and service booklet. Two sets of keys are included, with the spare key in as-new condition. There are some invoices for work carried out, including the recommissioning work.If you are looking for an unmolested original RS Cosworth, this is probably one of the worthiest candidates currently available; the lighter and rarer version of the Sapphire, this example is one for the Ford Connoisseur. Offered at an attractive price guide, giving the new recipient membership into the exclusive club of RS ownership.SpecificationMake: FORDModel: SIERRA SAPPHIRE COSWORTH 2WDYear: 1989Chassis Number: WF0FXXGBBFJS19022Registration Number: F394 FGNTransmission: ManualEngine Number: JS19022 Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 33735 MilesMake: RHDClick here for more details and images
