Sailing Boat - a large scale RC Radio Controlled model of a sailing fishing trawler ' SB Kathleen '. Extremely well detailed and of large scale, including wooden deck fittings, figures, fully rigged sails, and many other details. Fully fitted with radio gear (including transmitter). Made to a very high standard. Total length approx.; 125cm, total height 118cm. The SB Kathleen was a spritsail Thames barge built by Glover at Gravesend, Kent, in England in 1901, and registered in Rochester. Her official number was 113,708. She was built to carry grain - for capacity rather than speed. Kathleen's rig was changed with commercial needs. She took on an auxiliary motor, and then became a motor barge and in the 1960 was registered and worked as a timber lighter. She was sunk in 1923 by a Cunarder then refloated. In the 1953 East Coast storms she was washed up the shore at Whitstable and demolished several buildings. She was rerigged by an enthusiast in 1966 and raced again, before meeting her end in Spaarndam in 1986, with spars and fittings being passed on to the Wyvenhoe.

Italian school of the 19th century."Rural scene with figures".Oil on panel. With illegible signature in the central right part.Size: 27 x 18 cm; 55 x 46 cm (frame). In this luminist panel we see a work inscribed in the Italian school, captured with a brushstroke of great expressiveness, impastoed and dense in certain areas and lighter, almost invisible, in others. It belongs to a typology that was very common in Italy in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when a trend began to develop towards painting views of everyday corners in vertical format, centred on a foreground with an asymmetrical composition and worked with an impressionistic brushstroke that gives the scene vibrancy, emphasising the elements in the foreground against the background, which is more blurred.

[with]Anon., A true Jurnall or Diarie of all the materialle passages and occurences hapininge at and after our landinge at the Isle if Ree.No date [c.1627], seven page manuscript, two sheets folded folio, page size approx 31.5cm x 20cm, disbound, tape repairs to spine and fore-edge, wear to third leaf affecting script, hole in blank area of final leaf; [with]Transcripts, Two later manuscript transcripts (one partial) of the above and a nineteenth century transcript titled 'An Unhappie viewe of the whole behaviour of my Lo. Duke of Buckingham at the French Island. Secretly discovered by W.H. an unfortunate Comander in that unfortunate service'. Sixteen page manuscript, head of first page inscribed Phillipps Ms 21172, London, Superfine paper (watermarked 1810). Two manuscripts which give contrasting accounts of the unsuccessful English expedition to capture the French fortress city of Saint-Martin-de-Re on the Isle of Re in 1627. After three months of siege, Buckingham was forced to withdraw and suffered heavy losses. The first account gives the 'official view' portraying Buckingham as a brave and pious commander adored by his troops, who 'did ride in the foremost company with such a courageous spiritt wch did so encourage the soldiours that they wished for nothing so much as to have an encounter with the enemy to show their love to the generall'. The campaign had generated a great deal of propaganda at home and in response, alternative and more authentic accounts were written by officers at Re. The second manuscript criticises the route taken by Buckingham and his abusive and arrogant approach to his officers. Various encounters with the enemy are described, giving details of the number of men lost. (5)
