Lot 88

A 19th century Prussian M1864 NCO’s short sword or side arm. Brass handle with diagonally grooved grip to one side, and a beak shaped pommel. Curled quillons to the cross guard. Straight steel single edged blade, un-fullered with a flat spine. No apparent makers marks or issue marks. Notes: a variation of the later M1871 Prussian bayonet / short sword issued to enlisted men. Approximately 58.8cm total length, blade length 47.2cm. Condition: knocks to the pommel area of the hilt, plus some lighter marks to the quillons. The blade has darkened with age, with a mottled appearance and slight pitting.

A Burmese Dha-hmyaung and associated scabbard. Ebonised wood and white metal handle, with silver inlaid single edged steel blade. Polished wooden sheath with wire binding and rope attachment. Approximately 34.5cm length in scabbard - blade length 21.8cm. Condition: some age related wear and tear. Surface fracture to ebonised handle, which also extends down into the white metal mount. The steel blade shows some dark spotting in places and evidence of sharpening. The scabbard appear to have at least one wire binding missing, and the wood is a lighter colour where it once was. The rope mount is frayed and worn in places.

Lot 181

A late 19th century gros point needlework study of a young girl feeding a fawn (53 x 44.5 cm). Later annotation verso - 'Worked in 1890'. Glazed oak frame.* Condition: Colour have mellowed with age and some fading. The pale blue sky has a slightly lighter colour to the top right corner but this appears to be due to a change of wool during the making. A few small spots of loss to the wool in a few places, presumably due to insect damage, which are illustrated. Spot of glue to the surface of the embroidery to the upper centre near the top margin. Probable stitched horizontal repair to lower right corner. Later mid-20th century think oak frame. Inscribed 'Worked in 1890' verso in a fairly modern hand.

A late 19th to early 20th century Chinese hardwood occasional table: recessed top bordered by faux bamboo carving above pierced friezes carved with prunus blossom; raised on four faux bamboo uprights united by three similar stretchers (LWH 51 x 36.5 x 74 cm)* Condition: Good original surface and colour overall. The top does have a pale ring mark and a patch of lighter worn polish towards one end. This was once part of a nest of tables, so there are no corner brackets beneath the frieze to one side and no stretcher beneath. There is a little separation between the joints of the side stretchers and supports. No damage, losses or repairs to the carved frieze.

An 87-piece Villeroy & Boch 'Geranium' dinner service: 7 x 16.5 cm, 8 x 20.8 cm and 14 x 26.4 cm plates;  10 x 20.4 cm bowls; coffee pot (24 cm high) and hot water jug (15 cm high); a milk jug (9 cm high); 8 teacups (2 with chips to rim) and 11 saucers; 3 soup cups (4 saucers); 6 cereal bowls (15.2 cm diameter); 2 lidded tureens - vegetable 17 cm high and soup 20 cm high; a gateau plate (32.5 cm) and a circular platter (31.5 cm); a sandwich tray (32.6 x 16.3 cm) and 2 oval platters (32.6 x 22.2 cm and 39.5 x 27 cm); a sauceboat on fixed stand; a teapot (without lid) (14 cm high), a breakfast cup (2 saucers) and a footed eggcup. (Two chips noted to rim of 26.4 cm plate.) * Condition: One dinner plate has several chips to the rim, and all of the dinner plates have fairly heavy wear to the glaze to the centre. The side plates and cereal bowls have modest wear to the glaze to the centre, but it is lighter and less noticeable. The remainder of the pieces are in very good condition.

There is one tiny firing crack to the base of one of the ears on the lighter coloured horse, which is from manufacture.
