THREE DRUZE BRIDAL HEADDRESSES (TANTOUR / TARBUSH) WITH SILVER COINS AND FILIGREELebanon or Syria, 19th century Each of traditional circular shape, the top decorated with filigree roundels, vegetal motifs, and fretwork bands, one headdress caparisoned with silver coins and encrusted with turquoise and red paste, each with a metal chainlet on the side at the back. Each ca. 13cm diameter Tantours are traditional conical headdress of Tatar origin, once made of lighter material and adorned in silk. From the 11th century onward, they are found in the Levant, especially in Syria and Lebanon, and typically worn by Druze brides. The headdresses in this lot lack the conical shape, showing a greater affinity in style to another Levantine bridal headdress called tarbush. The tarbush was more versatile, usually being formed by a single oval or circular filigree silver disc fastened to the flat surface of a hat and often embellished with coins.Qty: 3
Walter Becht - A late 20th-century West German ceramic pottery vase / lantern, featuring a brown coloured glaze to the main body, a bright purple glaze to the reverse, and a lighter, blue glaze to the interior. Raised on a short plinth base, with a rectangular opening to reveal a candle holding space, and two circular stumped handles, with a chimney-looking top. Measuring approx. 21cm x 13cm. Printed 'WB 148/21' to the underside.
