Ca. 400 BC.A beautiful example of a Chalcidian helmet. The stylised and ornately decorated bowl is forged in one piece and embossed with a ridged line decoration. Pairs of rivets on each side to hold the cheekpiece. The Chalcidian type was introduced in the 6th century BC as a development to its predecessors, the Corinthian and Illyrian models, with improvements in design which gave the wearer better hearing and vision. The helmet’s lighter design allowed for greater mobility as well. For other Chalcidian examples without a nose-guard, see D. Cahn, Waffen und Zaumzeug Antikenmuseum Basel und Sammlung Ludwig, 1989, Basel, pp. 39 - 42. The item has undergone X-ray fluorescence analysis to confirm the metallurgical content suggesting its ancient origin and lack of modern trace elements. The report prepared by an independent Belgian Laboratory will accompany the purchase. The item comes with an academic report written by Russel Scott; famous lecturer, reenactor and expert of Viking and medieval artefacts.Size: L:270mm / W:220mm; 620gProvenance: Property of a London private collector; formerly in a European collection; acquired from Peter Ing till collection in early 2000s (Vienna). Formerly in an old Austrian collection.

Lot 426

Ca. 900-1000 AD.A bearded type of iron axe with a blade extending downward, below the butt of the axehead, providing a longer cutting edge and lighter weight. Axes were commonly used within the Viking communities, almost everything was formed of wood making it unsurprising that many axes existed for constructing ships, houses, carts, as well as other objects. The axe was also one of the choice weapons on the battlefield due to its lightweight. This item comes with a custom-made display stand.Size: L:95mm / W:160mm ; 170gProvenance: Property of an Oxfordshire art professional; previously in an old British collection, formed in the 1980s on the UK / International art markets.

Lot 88

Ca. 400 BC.A bronze pilos helmet, in the form of a conical, brimless bronze cap with hinged cheekpieces. The Pilos helmet takes its name from a felt cap of similar shape, often illustrated in depictions of herdsman and other outdoor workers. During the 5th-3rd centuries B.C., the type was popular because of its high level of functionality and ease of production. Pilos helmets show the evolution towards lighter and more flexible gear, with greater ability to breathe, see and hear without the faceplates of the earlier Corinthian type. Their simple conical design was also more economical and easier to construct. By the late 4th century, many were equipped with cheek guards and a flaring neck guard, as seen here.Size: L:290mm / W:225mm ; 700gProvenance: Property of an European collector; formerly in Ing. P. Till collection till 1999; previously bought in Vienna in 1971.

Jersey delivered, UK-registered on 1st March 2022, MOT'd in October 2022 at 39,128 miles and an opportunity for cosmetic enhancement. Supplied with V5C, service book, manuals, main dealer receipts - Offered Without Reserve.Developed especially for British roads by Provide, the company which helped Colin McRae, Richard Burns and Petter Solberg become World Rally Champions. Aerodynamically honed by Peter Stevens of McLaren F1 fame and based around a lighter and stiffer two-door bodyshell, the limited edition Prodrive One, abbreviated to P1, had more in common with the legendary 22B than its lesser four-door Subaru Impreza WRX siblings. All were painted in Sonic Blue and using the WRX STi Type R as a base, Prodrive engineers installed the anti-roll bars from the European-specification Impreza Turbo, along with firmer springs and shock absorbers, to deliver a suspension set up better suited to continental roads. The cars also featured ABS, as well as the Peter Stevens-designed anthracite OZ Racing wheels, front spoiler and rear wing. The car is powered by a revised version of the rally engine with re-calibrated electronics and developing no less than 280bhp, 69bhp more than the standard Impreza Turbo. With a big-bore exhaust, quick-shift gear linkage, 17” titanium-finish alloy wheels and a rally proven suspension set-up, the Impreza P1 limited run of 1,000 examples gained an instant cult following. As an eminently drivable sports-saloon very few examples of the P1 are available in today’s market that do not have six-figure odometer readings, crash damage or heavy modifications. As such, this 39,229 mile Impreza P1 offers a rare opportunity to cosmetically enhance a modern classic. It was supplied by Subaru main dealer Mauger’s Garage Ltd. of Jersey and subsequently serviced by them up until 2018 as evidenced by the stamped service book. Further maintenance receipts show in the name of the first owner and dated 2018 are included in the history file. Imported to the UK mainland and registered with the DVLA on 1st March 2022, it appears the car has been in storage and will be supplied to auction with a fresh MOT. The handbook wallet includes the original service book and owners manuals, aforementioned receipts, previous MOT Certificate and UK V5C.SpecificationMake: SUBARUModel: IMPREZAYear: 2000Chassis Number: JF1GM8KDGYG002543Registration Number: W863 XAATransmission: ManualEngine Number: 810284Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 39129 MilesMake: RHDClick here for more details and images

Superbly prepared and totally user friendly, this is a right-hand drive, recreation of Porsche's circuit only, 964 RS N/GT.In 1992, Porsche introduced the Carrera RS, a lightweight, rear-wheel drive only version of the 964. The RS was fitted with individually selected engines of type M64/03 which had a minimum power output of 260hp and a lightweight flywheel coupled to the state-of-the-art G50/10 gearbox which featured closer ratios, an asymmetrical limited slip differential and steel synchromesh. The car’s interior was stripped out and was devoid of luxuries such as electric windows, rear seats and air conditioning. Leather Recaro bucket front seats and lightweight carpets were fitted and the sound deadening was much reduced. The bonnet was made of aluminium, the chassis was partly seam welded, thinner glass was used in the doors and rear window, and overall the RS was 155kg lighter than the standard car.The Carrera RS was further developed by Porsche in 1992 with the launch of the N/GT and a total of just 290 of these very special cars were put together, all in left-hand drive. These cars were further stripped-out with all the carpets removed and replaced with plywood foot-boards for the driver. A fully welded cage was fitted and the standard RS seats were replaced with lightweight, Nomex-covered, FIA specification racing buckets. The N/GT also featured a long-range fuel tank, dual internal fire extinguishers, internal dash mounted engine cut-off and the DME was relocated behind the driver to allow the use of six-point harnesses. Harder and more track focused, the result is a car which felt more direct and visceral than the standard RS whilst still being usable on road or track. With genuine RS N/GT being thin on the ground, expensive and only available in left-hand drive our vendor decided to create his own. This particular RS N/GT tribute has been created utilising a Porsche Championship-winning, right-hand drive, 964 race car known as ‘The Goose’, now exquisitely reimagined as it is presented today. With the initial intention being track day focused, this outstanding example was completely stripped to bare metal before having the body fully refurbished and refinished in Porsche Maritime Blue with the same care and attention lavished on the interior, engine bay and front compartment. The engine has just been totally rebuilt including new engine casings due to a hair line crack being detected, now refitted and fully detailed, so fresh in fact is the rebuild that a period of running in is highly recommended to get the very best from this potent 911.With the fitment of a lighter, more progressive clutch, this particular 964 is now far more user friendly and presents an ideal opportunity for possible track or fast road use depending upon what its new owner has in mind. We understand that the car is now lighter and faster than a standard 964 RS and is offered at a fraction of the cost of the real deal.An outstanding 911 that will surely provide much enjoyment be that out on the open road or circuit based.SpecificationMake: PORSCHEModel: 964Year: 1989Chassis Number: WPOZZZ96ZK5401353Registration Number: F435 DDYTransmission: ManualDrive Side: Right-hand DriveMake: RHDInterior Colour: Blue / BlackClick here for more details and images
