The outstanding Second War submariner’s D.S.M. and Bar group of seven awarded to Leading Seaman D. Duckers, Royal Navy, who completed at least 35 war patrols as H.S.D. operator and senior ASDIC rating in H.M. submarines United and Tapir Distinguished Service Medal, G.VI.R., with Second Award Bar (JX.213687 D. Duckers, A.B.) impressed naming; 1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star; Africa Star, 1 clasp North Africa 1942-43; Burma Star; Italy Star; War Medal 1939-45, mounted court-style for display, good very fine or better (7) £4,000-£5,000 --- Importation Duty This lot is subject to importation duty of 5% on the hammer price unless exported outside the UK --- --- D.S.M. London Gazette 12 October 1943: ‘For courage, resolution and skill successful patrols in H.M. Submarines.’ The original recommendation for an immediate award states: ‘For skill and outstanding devotion to duty as senior Asdic rating of the submarine during 17 consecutive patrols in the Mediterranean. Throughout this time he has conducted himself with unfailing good spirits under at times the most arduous conditions. When United was once forced to remain submerged for over 36 hours and was hunted continuously throughout the night for 13 hours, this rating remained closed up at the Asdic set for 13 hours without relief and by his coolness, vigilance and efficient operating, played a major part in the successful evasion of the enemy. He has frequently materially assisted in the success of attacks by providing an accurate estimation of the enemy’s speed by their revolutions and has invariably displayed the utmost coolness during enemy counter attacks.’ D.S.M. Second Award Bar London Gazette 19 June 1945: ‘For courage, endurance and outstanding skill in successful patrols whilst serving in H.M. Submarines.’ The original recommendation for an Immediate Bar to the D.S.M. states: ‘Leading Seaman (H.S.D.) Donald Duckers, H.M. S/M. Tapir. For outstanding skill as H.S.D. operator in an attack on a German U-boat, in first detecting the U-boat and subsequently providing most accurate information of its movements which helped materially in its destruction. For consistent efficiency of a very high order in running his department, and for consistent cheerfulness and courage during 36 patrols in war.’ The covering remarks of the Rear Admiral commanding 3rd Submarine Flotilla state: ‘Fully concur with remarks of Commanding Officer. An experienced rating whose technical skill undoubtedly greatly assisted the Commanding Officer to bring the attack to a successful conclusion. The reasons given for the shortness of the list of recommendations are entirely concurred in; the chief credit for this very fine attack must go to Lieutenant J. C. Y. Roxburgh, D.S.O., D.S.C., Royal Navy, and his Asdic operator.’ Donald Duckers was born in Manchester on 5 July 1913, and educated at Bury Grammar School prior to finding employment as a salesman for a paper firm in Liverpool. On entering the Royal Navy as an Ordinary Seaman in August 1940, he volunteered for submarines and, having passed his training course, joined the Tigris in March 1941. In her he participated in operations in Arctic waters, including a successful patrol which accounted for five enemy transports and another severely damaged, the latter laden with supplies for the Murmansk front. His C.O., Commander H. F. Bone, D.S.O., D.S.C., was presented with a young reindeer by a grateful Russian Admiral, gift and crew safely returning home to their depot ship. In February 1942, Duckers removed to the P. 44 (a.k.a. United) as one of her H.S.D. operators, the commencement of a memorable tour of operations in the Mediterranean with the famous ‘Fighting Tenth’ Flotilla, his first D.S.M. reflecting service in 17 war patrols, the whole under the command of John Roxburgh, D.S.O., D.S.C. During that period United accounted for the Italian submarine Remo in the Gulf of Taranto on 15 July 1943, four merchantmen and three schooners, in addition to damaging others. She was also credited with the probable destruction of the Italian destroyer Bombardiere west of Sicily on 17 January 1943. Extensive coverage of United’s exploits can be found in John Wingate’s The Fighting Tenth, the author having been her First Lieutenant during Ducker’s time aboard. A hair-raising run-in with some E-boats, in which Duckers’ skills as the Asdic operator were in much demand is just one of many extraordinary encounters related by Wingate, encounters that more often than not resulted in punishing depth charge attacks, on one occasion for a duration of 13 hours. But there were lighter moments, such as the occasion Roxburgh received a signal informing him of the safe arrival of a daughter, news that prompted the running up of the ‘stork flag’ to accompany United’s ‘Jolly Roger’ – a plain white sheet with a black stork carrying a baby in its beak. Duckers, who received his D.S.M. at a Buckinghamshire Palace investiture in November 1943, accompanied Roxburgh to his next command, the recently launched Tapir in October 1944. And it was more or less between them that they plotted the destruction of the U-486 off Bergen on 12 April 1945, thereby winning the accolade of being among the handful of naval personnel to have successfully participated in a ‘sub-on-sub’ encounter; a full account of the action appears in Geoff Jones’s Submarines versus U-boats. The U-486 had sunk the troopship S.S. Leopoldville off Cherbourg on 30 December 1944. Crammed with 2235 American troops from 66th Infantry Division, 763 soldiers were killed, making it the heaviest loss an American Infantry Division suffered from a U-boat attack during the war. Awarded a Bar to his D.S.M., Duckers departed Tapir in September 1945 and was demobbed in January 1946. Sold with an impressive array of original documentation and photographs, including the recipient’s Asdic Operator’s Log covering the period September 1942 to August 1943 in United, and likewise for Tapir in the period March to August 1945; his Certificate of Service and Submarine Detector History Sheet, the last date stamped at Portsmouth on 27 January 1941; Admiralty letter informing him of his award of the Bar to his D.S.M., dated 26 June 1945; a dozen or so wartime photographs, including excellent crew and ‘Jolly Roger’ images, assorted newspaper cuttings, and correspondence with John Roxburgh, his old skipper.

Registration – OE12 YHUChassis No. – SBM11AAC3CW000230M.O.T. – February 2026Odometer – 15,979The “McLaren Project Four” or MP4 12C was launched in 2011 but became known as the “12C” from April 2012. ‘OE12YHU’ is a 2012 example of this stunning 200mph plus British supercar with an innovative carbon fibre construction. With just 15,000 warranted miles covered to date together with a full McLaren service history, it is hard to imagine a more desirable example. With just four owners to date and a host of desirable options, including an interior carbon fibre upgrade, ‘OE12YHU’ is complete with a long, advisory free MOT until February 2026. What’s more, ‘OE12YHU’ has never attracted an MOT advisory, further underscoring its optimum mechanical condition. With just 3,400 12C’s ever built and a heritage and history like McLaren behind it, the 12C is an investment that satisfies both head and heart. The McLaren 12C is built around an innovative carbon fibre “MonoCell” which weighs just 75kgs and was deemed so beneficial that McLaren invested £127 million in its development. This is paired with a carbon fibre composite chassis and a 3,798cc V8 rear mounted engine producing a mighty 592 bhp at 7,000 rpm. A sublime specification. ‘OE12YHU’ presents in the desirable and optional Elite exterior colour of Supernova Silver and is notable for its big, air gulping front grill and impressively wide side “gills.” ‘OE12YHU’ squats on the optional, 12% lighter, Light Forged alloy wheels in a 19-inch configuration at the front and 20-inch at the rear. The 12C’s cabin is surprisingly spacious for a supercar, a feat achieved by situating the seats as close to the centre of the car as possible. The cabin exhibits other high cost options including the full leather two tone upholstery in Carbon Black and Saddle Tan. This is accompanied by the Carbon Fibre interior upgrade to switch packs, steering wheel spokes and centre console. The M838T 3.8-litre V8 twin turbocharged, rear mounted engine is a true powerhouse in both literal and metaphorical terms. That mighty power output is accompanied by 443 Ib-ft of torque which is transmitted to the rear wheels via the seven-speed + R Seamless Shift Gearbox (SSG). The dynamics of this supercar are further enhanced by ProActive Chassis Control (PCC) with hydraulic roll control and adaptive damping. Both the highly specified transmission and suspension can be deployed in three distinct modes – Normal, Sport and Track. An open differential further aids the deployment of the huge power and torque. In summary:· A 200mph plus McLaren supercar with just 15,000 warranted miles to date· A full and diligent McLaren service history· Complete with a number of expensive and desirable options both inside and out

Registration – E637 EGUChassis No. – Q144M.O.T. – September 2025Odometer – 61,578‘E637 EGU’ is one of the rarest cars on the road today. DVLA records suggest just two Quantum Saloons remain in use in the UK in 2025. Quantum Sports Cars was founded in 1987 with their MKI offering being based on the MKI Fiesta. The MKII Saloon happened along in 1991 picking up the MKII Fiesta’s underpinnings along the way. ‘E637 EGU’s’ DVLA date of 1987 refers to its donor car – a MKII Fiesta XR2 – as it is a MKII Saloon so must be post 1991 in origin. ‘E637 EGU’ records a mileage to date of around 61,000 and has been enjoyed by eight keepers to date. In current ownership ‘E637 EGU’ has been well tended to with new wheels, new radiator and header tank, and new starter motor all fitted. The brakes have been replaced all round, a new camshaft fitted, and the cam belt replaced. ‘E637 EGU’ holds a valid MOT until September 2025 and is ready to use and enjoy immediately. The Quantum Saloon is unusual in boasting a GRP monocoque construction. This configuration is immensely strong, as well as being lighter and more aerodynamic than the donor XR2. ‘E637 EGU’ Also it was one of very few kit cars that could seat four adults in comfort, even leaving ample room for luggage in the commodious separate boot.‘E637 EGU’ offers a sleek profile and features some interesting details like the concealed headlights and chunky body kit incorporating a generous boot spoiler. ‘E637 EGU’ is finished in a bright red livery which has suffered some paint fade from a period spent under the bright sun in Portugal. Other pleasing external features are the new, five-spoke 15-inch alloy wheels and the glass sunroof. The interior of ‘E637 EGU’ is pure MKII Fiesta XR2 featuring grey fabric seats with red pinstripes. The signature XR2 twin spoked steering wheel and instrument binnacle are instantly recognisable. A modern, but period look, Bluetooth head unit is fitted. The interior’s condition appears very good indeed and indeed is vendor rated as “excellent.” The bodywork gets an “excellent” with the paintwork earning an “average.” The mechanicals are XR2 items meaning a 96 bhp, 1.6 litre Ford CVH engine mated to a five speed manual gearbox. In summary:An extremely rare and surprisingly practical four seater kit carBased on Fiesta XR2 mechanicals but carrying less weightComplete with a very well presented cabin original to the XR2

Lot 40

Registration – T949 OHEChassis No. – JT152AEB103064713M.O.T. – August 2025Odometer – 150,000The Corolla G6R is a lesser known example of the originally ubiquitous eighth-generation E110 Corolla. Released in limited numbers to commemorate Toyota's 1999 Manufacturer's World Rally Championship, just 420 examples originally made it to the UK. ‘T949 OHE’ is one of these rare models with only 15 or so now thought to remain. ‘T949 OHE’ has had just four owners to date with the current owner acquiring it in October 2022. ‘T949 OHE’ has been brought up to standard by the current owners thanks to a thorough recommissioning. This work extended to bodywork, brakes and underside. A new clutch was fitted, required welding done and undersealing performed. A full service has recently been performed and a new battery fitted. ‘T949 OHE’ has a valid MOT until August 2025, comes with plenty of paperwork and service history and is being offered with no reserve.Toyota proactively marketed the Corolla G6R as “not a hot hatch.” Their idea was to provide good value fun for younger drivers with lighter weight being prioritised over more power. As such the G6R featured an aluminium bonnet and special alloy wheels. Toyota claimed the GR6 “placed emphasis on affordable fun rather than insurance-prohibitive performance.” ‘T949 OHE’ still exhibits that innovative approach and looks great in its original black livery, subtle body kit and 15-inch six spoke Toyota alloy wheels. The G6R’s cabin was notable for its jazzy cloth upholstery, red seat belts and chunky perforated steering wheel. ‘T949 OHE’s’ cabin looks highly original even down to its Toyota branded Philips radio cassette player. The bodywork, paintwork and interior all attract an “average” rating. The 1.6 litre, DOHC, 16-valve four cylinder 4A-FE engine was originally rated at around 109 bhp and the G6R weighed in at just over a tonne. As such ‘T949 OHE’ and its siblings fulfilled the “fun through light weight and modest power” brief. A six speed manual transmission also endowed the car with legitimate motorway cruising credentials when needed. ‘T949 OHE’s’ mechanical systems are all rated as “good.”In summary:· A rare Toyota with just 15 or so thought to remain· Nicely restored to present in a decent overall condition· An unusual and eminently practical modern classic for JDM lovers
