Probably to a design by Henry Flitcroft, a serpentine marble-topped carved wood and gilt gesso console table, probably 18th century and later, with shaped thick green variegated marble top the base pierced and carved with fruit, shells and swags of floral rope, supported by well-carved Vitruvian monopodia with eagle carved detail and scale filled panels, terminating in eagle's claw feet. 194 cm wide x 85 cm deep x 92 cm overall height.Ex, Sotheby's Newsells Park Auction, the lot number is unknown. Please see The Dictionary of English Furniture, Edwards, Ralph, pages 285/286 for somewhat similar tables. Ex, Sotheby's Newsells Park Auction, the lot number is unknown. Please see The Dictionary of English Furniture, Edwards, Ralph, pages 285/286 for somewhat similar tables. The table has some losses to the gesso and the former owners have applied liquid leaf or some other product, the frame is made from pine and it has been sized for some reason to the unfinished areas the timber shows some gouge back-cutting to the edges of the carving as seen on 18th-century pieces (to give a lighter profile) it is possible to see some diagonal saw chatter on the inner frame,The bearers below the slab are later replacements and further to this I think the egg and tongue moulding also is later, but this is purely my opinion. The frame has one swag that has come loose but we have the item,The Sotheby's catalogue entry for the lot suggests that the piece is from the 19th century but I am unsure given the above.

They have the odd knock and rub/scuff that is expected from use. Please see the extra images.

**Saleroom Notice - Please note the correct estimate is £80,000 – £100,000, not £60,000 - £80,000 as incorrectly catalogued.** The JDM dream, presenting USA import eligible Sonic Silver Series I, with incredibly rare JDM parts fitted, in mainly standard guise. Rightfully lauded as the 'Holy Grail' of the JDM world, the R34 GT-R is a car which goes against the age old saying of 'never meet your heroes' as it is everything one would hope it to be. Phenomenally advanced for its time, it's easy to forget that this car was launched in 1999 with a smörgåsbord of hugely advanced technology such as the electronically-controlled Super HICAS 4-wheel steering, 5.8" LCD multifunction display in the dashboard, showing seven different live readings of engine and vehicle statistics, aggressive new styling, a stiffer bodyshell and a reworked version of the bulletproof and highly modifiable RB26DETT twin-turbo inline-six under the bonnet. The engine was mated to an all-new Getrag six-speed gearbox and transfer case. Unlike some other performance cars of the 1990s, Nissan did not neglect the braking system and fitted Brembo brakes with 300mm vented discs.Described by Evo magazine as 'A warrior-class performer' in its 2007 road test, where a standard R34 GT-R was pitted against the likes of a McLaren F1, Pagani Zonda, Ferrari F40 and Bugatti Veyron, the GT-R's reputation as a 'class act' remained intact. The V-Spec was introduced in October 1999, just nine months after the launch of the R34 Series I, making it an almost immediate upgrade over the standard car. While the Series I was a fantastic car, the improvements were thorough and ensured the V-Spec and V-Spec II cars are even more desirable. Changes for the V-Spec included an improved suspension system featuring stiffer springs and dampers, Brembo brakes as standard, lighter forged-aluminium wheels allowing wider tires, an active limited-slip differential, and an improved aero package with a front-lip spoiler and carbon fibre rear wing.As a V-Spec I, JDM-delivered, right-hand drive example, this is one of 514 Sonic Silver (KV4) V-Spec I cars out of a total production run of 11,578. It presents in excellent condition having been maintained religiously before and after its import in 2020, covering just 1,000km since landing on UK shores, and now displaying 137,000km. The car has been serviced by a marque specialist since being in the UK and comes to market benefitting from a service, detail and MOT.A keen eye will spot this isn’t a totally standard R34 GT-R having been enhanced with expensive, and somewhat 'unobtanium' parts such as the Nismo S-Tune front bumper, NISMO NE-1 stainless steel exhaust (costing £3,255 before shipping and taxes), NISMO gauge cluster, a front-mounted intercooler as well as Japan Racing wheels and what appear to be HSD coil-over suspension. It may not be able to claim the original 'Godzilla' title, as that remains with the R32 GT-R, but the newcomer definitely carried the torch, and arguably the R34 GT-R has become the most iconic and most recognised car ever to emerge from Japan in their late-90s 'golden era'.With the way R34 GT-R prices have skyrocketed so comfortably into the six-figure sums in recent years, this cherished, two UK-owner example is surely one of the final chances to acquire such a desirable car for such reasonable money, especially considering the 25-year import rule has now legalised this car for the US-market meaning prices are only going to go one way.SpecificationMake: NISSANModel: SKYLINEYear: 1999Chassis Number: BNR34001066Registration Number: S422 LEPTransmission: ManualEngine Number: RB26Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 139000 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Black ClothClick here for more details and images
One of three 'Pre-production Prototypes' (non-CAT), evaluated by Jeremy Clarkson and featured in Top Gear Magazine and Clarkson’s Car Years. The Escort RS Cosworth was an 'homologation special' and its sole role was to incorporate parts that Ford planned to use in their rally cars to ensure success in International Rallying. Because it was smaller, lighter and more nimble than any of the Sierras, the combination of Cosworth power, four-wheel drive transmission and an effective aerodynamic package made it a Rally Giant in all conditions. Success duly followed between 1993 and 1998 in the World Rally Championship for manufacturers, but the road cars were very rare - with just 2,500 'homologation special' versions made, becoming known as 'big turbo cars', all capable of 150mph and easily identified by the aptly named 'Whale Tail' rear spoiler. This particular Ford Escort RS Cosworth is extremely well known within Blue Oval circles, not just because it was once Jeremy Clarkson's daily steed, but more importantly because it is one of just three Prototype pre-production, hand-built, examples that, at the time, were rumoured to have cost in excess of £250,000 to produce, with a slightly different specification from standard production models that included 'Catalytic Converter Delete' for some unknown reason. Finished in Mallard Green with a Raven Hide interior, the Escort is in superb condition throughout retaining much originality and even the original Ford Motor Company registration, K38 FMC, remains assigned. The underside still has its original factory sealant in place and clearly shows that no rectification work has taken place.Never one to miss a marketing opportunity, Ford offered the car on loan to Jeremy Clarkson for a 12 month period for evaluation purposes and it featured in many reports at the time. It was subsequently offered as a competition prize in Top Gear Magazine which included free insurance for a 12 month period, something that will not have been cheap at the time for the renowned hot hatchback. In 2000, the Escort once again fell into Jeremy's hands to be featured in his TV programme, Clarkson’s Car Years, where they were filmed driving over 'Buttertubs Pass' in North Yorkshire during which time Jeremy stated 'One of my all time favourite roads meets one of my all time favourite cars, the Cossie'.More recently, the present long-term owner has carried out a full brake and suspension overhaul, fitted a brand new set of NOS genuine wheels and centre caps and improved the superb interior with a new headlining. With very minor mechanical enhancements the Escort RS is now ready to be enjoyed once again and ready for its next journey over that North Yorkshire Pass.Specification Make: FORD Model: ESCORT RS COSWORTH Year: 1992 Chassis Number: WF0BXXGKABNY95976 Registration Number: K38 FMC Transmission: Manual Engine Number: NY95976 Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Make: RHD Interior Colour: Raven HideClick here for more details and images
Brighton-built left-hand drive 300 that's been restored to 'show-quality'. The Italian-designed Isetta microcar was built under licence in a number of different countries, including Spain, Belgium, France, Brazil, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Produced in the post-WWII years, a time when cheap, short-distance transportation was most needed, it became one of the most successful and influential city cars ever created. Because of its egg shape and bubble-like windows, it became known as a 'bubble car', a name later given to similar vehicles from other manufacturers. With space for two and their luggage, the Isetta was perfect for the UK's urban and rural roads. In 1957, Isetta of Great Britain began producing the '300' model at their factory in Brighton under licence from BMW. The British cars were right-hand drive with the door hinged from the right-hand side of the car and the steering column moved across to the right as well. Being right-hand drive meant that the driver and engine were on the same side, so a counterweight was added to the left side to compensate. Lucas electrics replaced the German Hella and Bosch components, with a different headlamp housing being used, and Girling brake components replaced the ATE brake parts. In 1962, Isetta of Great Britain stopped production of the little cars but continued to produce Isetta engines until 1964.This lovely, show quality, Brighton-built, left-hand drive BMW Isetta 300 still sports its original Essex/Suffolk registration, 87 RPU. Being left-hand drive, it's a bit lighter than the RHD cars as it doesn't carry the 27kg counterweight. It's finished in a smart Powder Blue with a crisp blue/white plaid interior and is complete with a luggage rack. All Isettas came with a sunroof, not so much as a luxury feature, but essential for climbing out if someone parked too close to the front. The history file contains a 1976 copy of the original 'buff' logbook and a letter from the BMW Isetta Club. Infrequently used recently, we would recommend a light recommissioning. Values of these great little cars have continued to rise and, at today's guide, this little Powder Blue 300 seems good value.Specification Make: BMW Model: ISETTA Year: TBA Chassis Number: A3 15872 Registration Number: 87 RPU Transmission: Manual Drive Side: Left-hand Drive Odometer Reading: 46389 Miles Make: LHDClick here for more details and images
This is an exceptionally rare GSR variant imported by our vendor in 2019 to join his JDM Collection in Ireland. Mitsubishi had enjoyed much success in rallying all around the world since 1973 with their Gallant, Lancer and Starion however in 1992, the decision was made to fully commit to winning the World Rally Championship (WRC). Utilising the best of the technologies established through previous years, including their much-refined four-wheel drive S-AWC system (Super-All Wheel Control), the Lancer GSR Evolution model series was launched. True to its name, the series has undergone an ongoing evolution process ever since its introduction with improvements in engine performance and handling leading to the Evolution II in 1993 and the Evolution III in 1995.Following the introduction of the new Lancer road car model which debuted major improvements in styling and performance, the Lancer GSR Evolution IV was launched in 1996, boasting more power and ever more innovative technology including their new AYC (Active Yaw Control) adaptive handling enhancement system. The Evolution V continued the process with a further increase in engine torque and substantially improved handling thanks to a wider track and upgraded Brembo braking. Its 2-litre, DOHC, intercooler-turbocharged, four-cylinder engine now used an upgraded intercooler, enlarged nozzle area in the twin-scroll turbocharger, lighter pistons, an upgraded radiator and oil-cooler to produce 280bhp. Launched in January 1998 and produced for only a year, the Lancer Evolution V took up the motorsport mantle, at least in terms of the WRC. A new ruling allowing a bigger body gave Mitsubishi the opportunity to extend the previous model’s platform, increasing brake and wheel size, adding 10mm to its track and displaying, for the first time, flared arches and much more aggressive styling. It’s now widely accepted that finding credible examples of the Evolution V is becoming increasingly hard. In Japan, Evos were only produced by the Mitsubishi factory in five basic trims, RS, RS2, GT, GT-A or GSR. This is an exceptionally rare GSR variant, the road-going version of the out and out stripped RS competition edition. Featuring climate control, electric windows and mirrors, sports seats and alloy wheels, this Palma Red GSR sports the correct Recaro Sports seats and it believed to be one of under 100 produced, making it an exceptionally rare car.Purchased by our vendor in Japan and imported in 2019 to join his private JDM Collection, the car has been well maintained whilst in his ownership and driven sparingly, now displaying 100,200km (62,261 miles). Serviced in August in preparation for sale, this honest GSR remains close to standard specification, with the only modifications being a Pro Plus Inc. boost gauge, and an Alcantara re-covered steering wheel.
