GWR Signal Box Control Instrument. Dating from the late 1920s onwards, these were part of the G.W.R.`s `Economic Maintenance System` for lighter-used single lines. They controlled ganger`s locks in p.way cabins along a stretch of single line and when put into operation enabled the ganger to withdraw a circular brass key, from either a round Signal Dept release instrument, or later the `dog kennel` type of release. At the same time the normal key token operation for the particular section would become inoperable, to protect the p.way gang as they worked.
A circa 1880-1920 brooch in the form of a salamander set with demantoid garnets and diamonds, with cabochon cut ruby set eyes, bears makers mark V in a square to tip of tail. CONDITION REPORTS Some of the garnets are a much lighter green than others (particularly so to the tail), so may be later replacements. Clasp, which is shaped does appear to function. Overall with some general wear and scuffs, but overall appears in good tidy condition. Length approx 5.25cm. Gross weight approx 11g.
An 18th Century upholstered wing back scroll arm chair on four slender plain cabriole supports to pad feet (all feet replaced). CONDITION REPORTS The lower third (approx) of all legs are later replacements which have been made in a lighter wood and stained to blend in. The wood sections flanking the tops of the legs are also later replacements. Woodworm damage visible to underside near top of legs, but full frame not visible due to new fabric covering to underside. Upholstery has some wear and snags, but generally is in reasonable condition.
SIR WILLIAM OUSELEY (Translator) "The Bakhtyar Nama: A Persian Romance", with introduction and notes by W A Clouston, privately printed 1883, an edition of 330, of which 30 were printed on handmade paper and numbered, this a later copy i.e. after 30, tooled and gilded leather bound , inscribed "To Mrs. Morris from the editor". CONDITION REPORTS Book has general wear conducive to age. The cover is discoloured where it has clearly been kept on a bookshelf (lighter to edges). Some surface scratching conducive to age particularly to the back. Along edges and corners the leather work is quite worn. Binding appears solid. Some general yellowing to pages conducive to age and some foxing (quite bad on the first seven pages) then fading off throughout and disappearing by page 21. At the back there is some generally lighter foxing up until approx page 220. All other pages have some browning to the edges and the odd spot of foxing on the edge of a page and one or two dirty marks from general use. Overall binding appears in good sound condition.

A synthetic sapphire and diamond ring. The oval-shape synthetic sapphire, to the brilliant-cut diamond shoulders, with millegrain edges and foliate detail. Estimated total diamond weight 0.30ct. Weight 7gms. Overall condition good. Minor surface scratches in keeping with general wear. Inside the band has localised scratches. Diamonds individual size and setting prevents accurate colour and clarity assessment. The diamonds are bright, lively and well matched. The synthetic sapphire graduates in colour from a dark centre to lighter edges. Minor scratches to the stone. Ring size N.
