2015 KTM 1050 Adventure ABS, 1050cc. Registration number VX15 LAE. VIN number VBKV43409FM924913. Engine number 0560600508.Sold with the V5C, MOT until May 2025, three keys, original service book and folder, tool kit, datatag. The 1050 is actually a slimmed down 1190 Adventure and as such comes with a smaller capacity version of the LC8 engine, as well as ride-by-wire and a new chassis aimed at making the bike lighter and easier going than the 1190.The 1050 may only make 94hp, but it is still a remarkably rapid bike when it comes to getting from A to B. It's one of those machines that's so relaxed to ride you end up stroking along rather faster than you should be. The chassis is agile enough to handle bends at pace and a high speed becomes maintained without really noticing. While the suspension is certainly set on the soft side, this suits the 1050's character as a day-to-day bike.LAE was sold to John Payne of Monmouth by AMS Motorcycles and serviced by them at 587, 2,965. It was then serviced at 4,788 miles in 2021 and 5,125 miles in 2002 when it was sold to our vendor by Premier Bikes of Didcot for £6,950. At some point it has had a KTM XC1 mapping undertaken. The current MOT was undertaken at 5,282 miles. This two owner, low mileage machine, is consigned from a deceased estate. The vendor maintained the bike to a high standard and it is a testament to his care and attention to detail that it presents so well.

Voyages.- Slocum (Joshua) Sailing Alone Around the World, first edition, association copy with signed presentation inscription from the author "To 'Alan Erric', a friend who had a kindly encouraging word for the struggling skipper when the breakers seemed close aboard | Joshua Slocum | Boston March 31st 1900" on front free endpaper, illustrations, some light marginal toning, browning to pp.120-121 and slightly lighter to pp.264-265, otherwise mostly clean, original decorative cloth, spine faded, light surface marks, extremities lightly rubbed, else an excellent and bright example, 8vo, New York, 1900. *** Rare association copy of this classic of nautical literature. Sailing Alone Around the World is the superb narrative of the first single-handed circumnavigation of the globe and the "justly admired record of [Slocum's] seamanship, character, and navigational skill" (ANB).In 1892, he was given the Spray, a small weather-beaten 37-foot oyster sloop designed for coastal sailing. After rebuilding the sloop, Slocum left Boston in 1895 for his three-year solo voyage. In Chapter X, he shields from a storm and gets the Spray into a snug nook in Port Angosto, still 60 miles short of his next destination towards Cape Pillar and the Pacific. Laden with tallow and salvaged cargo, he just escapes from a brush with the native Feugians and gets out of his anchorage, though not before drifting around - namely the eponymous dedicatee of the inscription – Alan Erric Island.  The eponymous Alan Erric is not mentioned in detail, but alluded to only as an acquaintance: “I named it Alan Erric Island, after a worthy literary friend whom I had met in strange by−places” – p.132. A rare association inscription and link to this maritime literary cornerstone.

A BEAUVAIS AMUSEMENTS CHAMPÊTRES TAPESTRY AFTER JEAN BAPTISTE OUDRY FRENCH, CIRCA 1780 Woven with Oudry's design 'La Main Chaude' ("Hot Cockles"), figures in a wooded landscape beside a stream and stone folly, an open landscape with chateau visible in the distance, a shepherdess and her flock on the opposite bank, within a scrolling bold acanthus frame border approximately 300cm high, 397cm wide The design for this tapestry panel belonged to a series of "amusements champêtres" devised by Oudry (1686-1755) with one stage of his composition preserved in a drawing in the Stockholm National Museum (No. 2890 / I863). The scene features a game of "hot cockles" where a blindfolded person bent over with his head in the lap of a woman. The other players slapped him on the hand that is tucked behind his back, and he had to guess who it is. When the person guesses correctly who slapped him, that person takes his place. The game is depicted in a contemporary painting (1767-1773) by Fragonard (National Gallery of Art, Washington, 1946.7.6). A version of this tapestry is held in the Harvard Art Museum (1953.114). Condition Report: With wear, marks, repairs and sun fading as per age, handling, use, and cleaning. The whole with a slightly brown tint but retaining some of the more fragile lighter colour tones. Numerous areas of stitch repairs- but with some fragility resulting in some open areas with backing visible. Backing fairly modern.
