A pair of Second World War Royal Air Force tropical mess dress epaulettes for the rank of Flight Lieutenant, R.A.F. YOUNG ' all these items belonged to Group Captain Alistair Young O.B.E. who served in the Middle East and Burma, ( Qty )
Officers silver and gilt cap badge to the Lancashire Fusiliers, three loops to the reverse, together with a regimental tie pin in silver and enamel, a similar tie pin in gilt and enamel, a trench art lighter formed from Lancashire Fusilier buttons, a desk ornament/paper weight formed from a L.F. badge on a hardwood base, five officers rank stars, and an Indian coin/charm in an envelope marked ' Pandit Rala Singh charm,given at Wellington 25.3.28 ', the items all belonged to Colonel Godrey Tallents D.S.O. of the Lancashire Fusiliers. ( Godfrey Edward Tallents was born on the 31st August 1883, he was educated at Wellington College and the Royal Military College Sandhurst, on passing out of the R.M.C. Tallents was posted to the 3rd Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers in the West Indies, he went on to serve with them in Malta and St. Helena,on the disbandment of the 3rd Battalion in 1906 transferred to the 1st Battalion, he was in India with this Battalion when the First World War broke out in 1914, 1st L.F. returned to the U.K. and joined the 29th Division, on 25th April 1915 1st L.F. landed on 'W' beach ( Lancashire Landing) Cape Helles, Gallipoli under a storm of fire, Tallents, by now a Captain, led an outflanking assault on the Turkish positions and was credited with breaking their line, later the same day he was badly wounded when he was shot in the head, the bullet entering the left side and exiting on the right shattering his eye socket into three pieces, for his actions that day Tallents was Mentioned in Dispatches and awarded the Distinguished Service Order, 1st L.F. suffered casualties of around 700 killed and wounded that day out of 1000 present and earned '6 V.C.'s before breakfast', after recovering in hospital in Malta Tallents returned to the U.K. briefly before going to France where he served on the Western Front as Staff Captain ( 177 Inf. Bde.), and G.S.O.2 (34th Div., 38th Div., GHQ, and 42nd Div. ) and was again mentioned in dispatches, after the war Tallents took command of 'D' Company 1st L.F. and then as a Major commanded the Depot Lancashire Fusiliers at Bury, he attended the senior officers course and in 1928 as Lieutenant Colonel took command of 2nd Bn. L.F. at Multan in India returning to the U.K in 1930, during the Second World War Tallents served as a Colonel on the staff of Northern Command in the U.K. as G.S.O.2, he passed away in 1967 )

II, p. 458, as a copy by Adriaen van der Cabel of the original by Jan van Goyen (ibid, p. 457, no. 1018) in the Kurpfälzischen Museum in HeidelbergCondition report: Oil on a wooden panel formed from one board with the woodgrain running horizontally. . The support and paint layers are in a good condition overall. With time the woodgrain has become evident through the paint layers, which is typical of painting of this date. The sky has extensive retouching covering the woodgrain which has become lighter over time. There is little retouching in the darker paint passages. The varnish is clear even and semi-glossy. The frame is in a good condition.
A Study of a male nude oil on canvas, unframed 74 x 62.5 cmCondition report: Oil on canvas which appears to be unlined but has been reinforced around the edges of the painting. The canvas has good tension and the painting is generally in plane. An old damage in the area of the sitter's elbow has been repaired from the reverse with canvas threads. There is some wear in the lighter paint passages - mainly the shadows on the figure. Overall the paint layer is stable. There are a few scattered retouchings which are finely executed and well matched to the original. The varnish is clear, even and glossy.

Metal plaque reads 'Ben Herring / 1870' The paintings are possibly on paper which have been mounted onto panel supports. The panels have canvas reinforcement on the reverse. Splits in the panel (and possibly paper) are evident on the surface of some of the paintings. There is general wear and abrasion. All of the paintings have retouchings which are applied in thin strokes and touches. Some of the retouchings have become lighter over time and are more apparent. The varnish layers are thin, clear and even. The frames have some wear and losses to the gilded surface.

A novelty table lighter in the form of a jeep and limber, c.1940's, by Walter Baier, made in aluminium, the jeep with label to interior, and stamped Ges Gesch to underside, later addition of Bad Harzburg crest to roof, the limber ashtray unmarked, jeep 13.5cm long, 7.6cm high, limber 10.5cm long, 3.8cm high.
A late 17th century Dutch walnut candle stand, with floral marquetry decorated top and barley twist stem, on scrolled tripod, W.11in. H.2ft 8in. (later modification)CONDITION: Overall a good dark rich coffee colour, slightly lighter across the top, top is probably entirely later and inlaid with floral marquetry. Stem and tripod look to be original, signs of old worming with old repairs to two of the feet which have both been cracked through at some point.
