TULLIBARDINE 10 YEAR OLDSingle malt.40% ABV / 70clJURA SUPERSTITIONSingle malt. With deer outnumbering people by around 25 to 1, it’s surprising the isle of Jura can sustain a distillery at all, let alone a decent sized one capable of supplying 2.2 million litres of spirit per annum. Although it was originally founded in 1810, the distillery closed at the turn of the century and wasn’t revived until the 1960 when it was completely rebuilt by two of the island’s local landowners.Despite the abundant peat available on the island, Jura’s style has tended to be somewhat lighter, as dictated by the blending requirements of its owners over the years. Today it is operated by Whyte & MacKay, under the Emperador umbrella.40% ABV / 70cl
A LANGYAO VASE, QING DYNASTYChina, 1644-1912. Stoutly potted, the globular body rising from a short straight foot to slanted shoulders surmounted by a thin tubular neck with flared rim, applied overall with a deep crushed-strawberry glaze thinning to mushroom at the rim. The base covered in a finely crackled ge-type glaze.Provenance: From an Austrian private collection. Condition: Good condition with some wear and firing flaws, including pitting, and few small chips to the foot. The base smoothened in some areas, probably inherent to manufacturing, due to the uneven glaze dripping along the foot rim which is expected from this type of ware.Weight: 2,900 g Dimensions: Height 31.3 cmLangyao is a vitreous red glaze that was developed at the Jingdezhen imperial kilns under the supervision of Lang Tingji (1663-1715), governor of Jiangxi Province between 1705 and 1712. This copper glaze turns red after being fired in a reducing or oxygen-deprived atmosphere. It sometimes drips down the vessel during firing, creating drops around the foot. It is incredibly hard to achieve, with layers of clear and copper-rich glazes allowing for depths of color, as clearly evidenced by the present lot. The glaze must be of a certain thickness to turn red, so areas where it is thinning can be lighter in color or even white.

UNITED KINGDOM. Victoria, 1837-1901. Gold half-sovereign, 1887. London. Imperfect J DISH L508. The issues the mint encountered with the Jubilee coins are well documented and were exacerbated by the pressure for the coins to be ready for the Queen's Golden Jubilee on 20 June 1887. Records show that 1,771,425 half-sovereigns were struck in 1887, but only 871,770, less than 50% of the total, were fit for circulation. To improve metal flow silver was included in the alloy, which makes all 1887 London Jubilee head half-sovereigns stand out for their lighter colour. Although this variety is the most common of the 1887 Jubilee head half sovereigns, it is highly sought after due to the fascinating story surrounding the series, recently told by David Iverson and Steve Hill In their publication 'The Jubilee Head Gold Half Sovereign 1887-1893' (Sovereign Rarities, 2019).Crowned and veiled Jubilee bust facing left; JEB on truncation, imperfect J; inscription: VICTORIA DEI GRATIA BRIT: REGINA F: D:. / High, crowned and embellished shield-of-arms; date in exergue; BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF:.In secure plastic holder, graded PCGS MS63, certification number 42501321.
