An early 20th century mahogany side table of scalloped form, with painted chinoiserie decoration, two cupboards and six drawers and raised on cabriole legs. Width 92cm, height 82cm, depth 41cm.Top has been sanded back and is now lighter than the remainder, otherwise in good condition, with a some age and use related marks and some cracks to the veneer.

Registration No: OP 4348 Chassis No: GMJ1 MOT: ExemptSubject to a sympathetic 10 year restorationFitted with Ranalah coachwork by The Southern Motor Co. in 1937In single-family ownership since August 1959Fitted with "Clearview" pillarless windscreenUnveiled in 1922, the 20HP was a second string to the Rolls-Royce bow – a shorter, more economical sibling to the Silver Ghost which broadened the marque’s reach to span both the very rich and seriously wealthy. Instantly distinguished by its horizontal radiator shutters, the newcomer was constructed around a ladder-frame chassis of 129 inch wheelbase. Power came from a 3,127cc straight-six, OHV monobloc engine mated to a three-speed manual gearbox. Suspension was by semi-elliptic leaf springs all-round. Braking was initially on the rear wheels alone, while steering was by worm and nut. Progressively updated to feature a four-speed gearbox and servo-assisted all-wheel braking, the ‘baby’ Rolls remained in production until 1929, by which time some 2,885 examples had vacated the company’s Derby factory. Lighter and more responsive than the Silver Ghost, the 20HP was capable of exceeding 60mph.On September 22nd 1926 chassis GMJ1 was ordered by the George Heath Ltd, John Bright Street, Birmingham as their dealer demonstrator. On December 24th, GMJ1 was delivered to Thrupp and Maberly, Cricklewood for coach-building. The next four months saw the Rolls-Royce being used as a demonstrator at George Heath Ltd. The ownership record is virtually complete, showing that on July 13th 1927, a printing company managing director from West Bromwich purchased the car from George Heath Ltd before a succession of owners in the North.In 1937, the chassis was renovated and re-bodied by The Southern Motor Company. GMJ1 had a unique body fitted, a very special and more ‘contemporary’ two-door Fixed-Head Coupe built by Ranalah - it was described as a ‘replica’ (of a brand new 20/25hp and hence more expensive model). Of note is the incorporation of a curved pillar-less windscreen, one of only two such screens ever known to have been fitted and is now the only known survivor. Up to 1946 GMJ1 belonged to the WWII decorated Hon. Margaret Forbes Sempill at the elegant Craigievar Castle, Aberdeenshire. Following WWII, the car continued Scottish custodianship with a retired and distinguished RAF Squadron leader.In single-family ownership since August 1959, ‘OP 4348’ was used by the previous late owner as a ‘daily driver’ until 1962, whilst at Cambridge University and for commutes to the workplace around Workington, Cumbria. Although plain Black and not so smart, it was reliable for some 16,300 miles, but after getting a smaller car (and getting married!) it was garaged, stored and off the road with 90,300 miles on the clock, until 2016.During storage by a succession of friendly enthusiasts, the entire motor car has been sympathetically restored in stages over some 10 years; bodywork and paint, wiring and fabric plus mechanicals. 'GMJ1' is offered with a current Registration Document, flying lady mascot, a collection of invoices and old MOT certificates, a collecton of books, hand written logs and an oringal handbook and instruction book. Registration No: CWB 609N Chassis No: TA22104139 MOT: November 2025Very rare, surviving, UK-supplied Celica notchbackJust three owners from newDry stored for the past 24 years A genuine and warranted c.24,300 miles from newUnveiled at the October 1970 Tokyo Motor Show, the first generation Toyota Celica debuted as a two-door, notchback coupe with distinctive ‘Coke bottle’ styling. Utilising the same running gear as its Carina sibling but in a smaller, lighter and sportier package, the newcomer was a strong seller in Japan and served as something of a halo model in North America and Europe. Better built than many of its rivals on the latter two continents, the Toyota was also an early adopter of five-speed manual transmission. Performance was class competitive and running costs admirably low. This 1974 ST Coupe was first owned by a Mr S. Lockett who left the car to the previous (and just second) owner in his will. The car was consigned to our 26th July 2000 auction at Buxton, where it was purchased as an investment by the vendor, and immediately placed into dry storage. Remaining static until our recent photography session, it has covered a genuine and warranted c.24,300 miles from new. Supplied by Portland Autos of Sheffield, this highly original and unmolested example appears complete, save for a single missing hubcap. A straightforward and sympathetic recommissioning project, ‘CWB 909N’ has been started and driven following more than two decades of slumber and is supplied with a small number of sundry spares in the boot. We finally got rid of the VW pedals and had a chassis that handled in a much more progressive and controllable manner. Not a convert before completely converted after!" Traditionalists may have decried the 996's water-cooled engine and shared Boxster componentry, however, the newcomer's use of a brand-new platform (the 911's first since 1963) meant that it was notably lighter, stiffer, and more aerodynamic than its 993 predecessor. Equipped with four-valve cylinder heads, the 996's 3.4-litre engine developed 296bhp and 258lbft (outputs comparable to those of the 993 Carrera RS's 3.8-litre unit). Allied to either a six-speed manual or five-speed Tiptronic transmission, the free-revving flat-six enabled the 2+2-seater to sprint to 60mph in 5 seconds and onto 174mph. More ergonomically laid out and spacious than that of any previous 911, the 996's cabin also boasted a far better HVAC system. Early 3.4-litre 996 cars are increasingly sought after because of their stronger dual-row IMS bearings and mechanical throttles.Supplied new to the United Kingdom on the 1st August 1998, the 911 offered is finished in Arctic Silver paintwork with Blue leather interior upholstery and is a desirable early example with manual transmission and without sunroof. Specified from new with the Sports Package which included sports suspension, electric sports seats, LSD, and 18’’ two-piece sports wheels, the 911 was also specified with option ‘09991’, the ‘Manufacture for Exclusive - Programme’ and is believed to have been fitted with the Aero bodywork from new. Entering current ownership in 2004, the 911 is offered now having covered some 98,000 miles. A pair of continental walnut and marquetry three drawer bedside cabinets, each with marble top and raised on cabriole legs terminating in sabot feet. Height 73 cm, top 36 cm x 31 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: On one cabinet the marble top has some very minor nibbles to some edges and light scratches to the top, although these are nothing to worry about. The left-hand side has some marks that we would suspect are probably water splash marks and there are some similar marks to the bottom drawer on the left-hand side. Other than this it has age-related marks. On the second one the marble is in the same condition. The body of the cabinet again is in the same condition but is a very slightly lighter colour.

An antique mahogany side table, of square form with single drawer with brass drop handles opening to compartments for pens, stamps etc. raised on turned tapered legs united by a cross stretcher. Height 80 cm, width 61 cm, depth 50 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The top of the table has some slight cracking to the rear inlaid section and it feels quite dry. The drawer works as it should and there is a very slilght chip to the beading at the top left hand corner. Where the darker beading comes around the very base of the body below the drawer as it leads into the left hand leg this has been coloured with a permanent marker which would usggest that a section of timber has been replaced. At the rear leg of this section there ia s piece of timber which has been replaced with a lighter coloured section and there is also some wear to the top of the leg. The legs show general signs of wear and tear, scuffs, etc. The central cross stretcher has been strengthened at the underside centre. The bottoms of the legs have been smoothed off in places but the castors are all in working order.

A gold cigarette lighter by Louis Osman, 1972, of slightly rounded rectangular form and plain polished finish, with conforming slide button to one side, unmarked, in original fitted cork travel case, dimensions approximately 78 x 41 x 15mm. £2,000-£3,000 Please note ARR will apply to this lot (Artist’s Resale Rights). --- This lighter was commissioned from Louis by Mrs Jenkins as a surprise gift for her husband Maurice for Christmas 1972, following on from the cigarette case she has commissioned the previous year. [See lot 367) As with the earlier cigarette case, this lighter takes the deceptively simple form of a gold block, but this time with a single smooth slide button to one side. Exhibited: Osman: An exhibition of the Works of Louis Osman, at Canons Ashby, Northamptonshire, 18 & 19 May 1974, exhibition catalogue no. 13. A copy of this catalogue accompanies this lot, together with further related correspondence. Condition Report The lighter is in working order, having recently been fully repaired. The lighter is battery and gas operated. Requires a 12 V battery. According to a PMI test on the XRF Analyzer, the lighter is testing as 18ct gold. Although not hallmarked, the vendors confirm the lot was made in 1972 by Osman. This lot is accompanied by: A hand written quote, with sketch design. A hand written valuation of lighter, dated 18 December 1972. A copy of letter relating to repair to the lighter, dated 27 March 1973. A copy of an invitation to the Osman exhibition, at Canons Ashby, with hand written note verso, referring to cigarette case. A large 18ct gold cigarette case by Louis Osman, 1973, of hinged slightly rounded rectangular form and plain polished finish, with slide action, hallmarked for London 1973, with maker’s mark ‘LO’, in original fitted cork travelling case, dimensions approximately 183 x 41 x 15mm. £18,000-£20,000 Please note ARR will apply to this lot (Artist’s Resale Rights). --- This case was commissioned in 1971 from Louis by Mrs Jenkins as a surprise Christmas gift for her husband Maurice. The case was made especially to accommodate 24 Benson & Hedges kingsize cigarettes, as favoured by Mr Jenkins. This commission gives a clear demonstration of Louis’ attention to detail; he wrote to Benson & Hedges to seek confirmation (which he received) that the dimensions of this particular cigarette would not be changing before finalising the design. Louis designed the case to resemble a seamless block of gold with no visible clasp to open it, but this simplicity was deceptive; the sliding mechanism was technically very complicated. Initially there were some issues achieving the smooth slide action; as a result the case was remade in 1973. Since this final repair the case’s smooth slide action has remained fully operational. “[Louis’] gold pieces show the softness and richness of this lovely metal, so often hidden nowadays beneath a hard commercial shine. Louis finds gold inspiring: he chooses the colours of his alloys, the organises his hammering and hand burnishing and strong shapes all with the same aim: to allow this noble metal to be itself.” Graham Hughes, Art Director of the Goldsmiths’ Company 1951 - 1980. Provenance: the property of a Hampshire private collector.
