A 1916 Rudge Multi motorcycle Formed by the acquisition in 1894 of the Rudge Cycle Company Ltd by the Pugh family`s Whitworth Cycle Company, Rudge-Whitworth built its first motorcycle in 1910. Unusually, Rudge did not use a proprietary engine but one of their own design: a 499cc single with inlet-over-exhaust valvegear. The new 3½hp model proved outstandingly successful; in 1911 Victor Surridge`s became the first 500cc machine to exceed 60 miles in one hour, while Rudge-mounted Cyril Pullin won the Isle of Man Senior TT for the Coventry manufacturer in 1914. By this time the desirability of incorporating a clutch into the transmission had become all too apparent, as had the need for variable gearing, and Rudge first offered the Mabon variable gear in response. Although preferable to direct drive, the Mabon had its weaknesses, prompting Works Manager John Pugh to come up with something better - the Multi. Controlled by a tank-mounted lever, the Multi worked by varying the diameter of two pulleys, one on the crankshaft, the other on the rear wheel, offering 21 forward ratios between 3.5 and 7.0:1 while maintaining drive belt tension. An outstanding success, it would remain in production for the next ten years. This 500cc machine is an extremely rare early survivor from the WW1 period of Multi production, which was used a dispatch bike for a Naval Shore Station in England. Only approx. 50 machines were produced by Rudge in 1916, all for the War Department, and there are believed to be only a handful of survivors as most were sent abroad. In 1961 it was bought by the vendor`s father, an engineer and watchmaker by trade for the sum of £15.00. At this stage it comprised a frame, two wheels and a large box of parts, which he painstakingly restored and reassembled. It was subsequently used for many years before a second restoration in the late 1980s, since when it has been used sparingly in Alderney. Please note that it has not been used regularly for several years, so will probably require servicing and some light recommissioning before regular use.

A 1935 VELOCETTE MAC 348cc OHV registration number FM 9801, original black with gold lettering, V5 and buff log book, last owner since 1974, last road tax July 1964 Introduced in 1934 the innovative ohv Velocette Mac provided reliable and sporty transport. Enclosed valve gear and a four speed foot change gearbox with 75mph performance made this a popular machine. This example dates from 1935 with original frame Webb forks, tinware and preferred BTH magneto. Details of maintenance are found in a unique owners log from 1948 to 1956 showing extensive engine work and the substitution of MSS cams and rebore to 357ccs. A TRIUMPH TIGER T 110 PRE-UNIT TWIN CYLINDER OHV 649CC MOTORCYCLE registration number 596 CRR, registration V5 and buff logbook, matching engine and frame numbers 0020290 The Triumph Tiger 110 was the sports development of the more sedate iron engined Thunderbird mode with an alloy sports cylinder head, uprated camshaft, enlarged carburettor and better braking. This model is considered by some to be a more desirable option than the later T120 Bonneville being less temperamental whilst retaining sporting characteristics and performance. This motorcycle has been meticulously dismantled and the components labelled and stored in boxes. It is apparently complete except for the tyres and an exhaust system. The majority of the machine has been expertly renovated with receipts available from the suppliers. The frame, forks, front and rear suspension and swinging arm are assembled. The petrol tank and mudguards are painted in the correct ivory and black. The wheels are rebuilt and remain in their packaging as do the other painted items. The engine has been rebuilt to +20 with a K2F magneto in situ. The cylinder head is ready for refitting. The gearbox casing is polished and gear components renewed but separately boxed.
