Fitted with Rootes' well-regarded 1725cc five-bearing engine, the car has been mechanically upgraded with Holbay equipment, electronic ignition, Weber 32/36 twin-choke carburettor and a stainless steel exhaust, with the vendor reporting its performance now as 'quite lively'. The engine was overhauled in 2018 at a cost of £3500, while other enhancements include a new black soft-top (fitted earlier this year) plus seats retrimmed in black and white leather. The wire wheels and overdrive have been on the car since new. The vendor's assessment of the bodywork is 'rust-free' with a 'solid and undersealed chassis'. While the 20,426 miles are unwarranted, the mileage at the time of the engine rebuild was around 20,300, so it has covered very few miles since then. It is understood that it is currently fitted with engine number B10‑2554 although the original engine B10‑5203 comes with the car and will be available for collection from the vendors address. Supplied new in Melbourne, Australia where it remained for 64 years, it appears to have had four owners prior to coming to the UK and was mostly owned by Lancia, and in particular Aurelia, enthusiasts. We have been informed that the last owner from 2005 until 2015, when exported to the UK, was a prominent Lancia Club member in Sydney. He had covered over 40,000 miles on club runs and described it as a reliable and comfortable touring car with an endearing character. Purchased by its former owner some 45 years ago and stripped almost immediately with the intention of producing a fast road car. Due to work commitments, the project was never completed. Our vendor describes the shell as being incredibly solid with only minimal repairs required. The original engine (dismantled) and gearbox are present along with the axle and front suspension. A 1954 Vincent Firefly engine, fuel tank and fittings, no. T05AB - 1 - 52352, confirmed by the National Autocycle and Cyclemotor Club Ltd. In 1953 Vincent took over production of Miller's new cycle motor. Known as the Firefly this 48cc two stroke unit was designed to fit under a motorcycle bottom bracket and drive the rear wheel via a roller. It was claimed that due to the size of its drive wheel it offered greater traction and less tyre wear than its rivals. The condition of this engine is unknown but it turns over freely. A must for the Vincent collector.

Lot 144

A circa 1860s twin cylinder steam engine. This engine was reputedly made by a manufacturer in Twyford, Berkshire, circa 1860 and was bought by Charles Hilsden, a millwright from Tring, Hertfordshire. The engine then passed to his son until after WWII when it was sold to a Mr Venn minus the boiler. It has apparently been run occasionally on compressed air at 10 to 15 PSI. Both cylinder bores, pistons and rings are said to be in good condition. This is sold as seen and not as a working engine.
