A Russian malachite veneered and gilt metal mounted casket, second half 19th century, of rounded rectangular form, the hinged cover and body with engine milled borders, mounted with lions' masks, the escutcheon with a floral wreath, 6 x 11 x 8cm; a Continental gilt metal and malachite mounted model of a hound, late 19th century, on a stepped rectangular plinth, 11cm high overall, the base 22 x 15cm; and a malachite veneered desk weight, inset with a gilt medallion of Adolphus Frederick, Duke of Cambridge, after George Gamon Adams (1821-98), 10.5 x 16cmCondition Report: The items bear the usual minor marks, knocks and scuffs overall consistent with age and use.The interior of the casket is white marble. There is some minor adhesive residue visible to the underside, where the felt cover has been reattached. The veneer has some very minor chips and losses to the edges, and the body shows other small irregularities naturally occurring within the stone. The mounts are a little bent and have some dirt/polish in the recesses.The base of the dog sculpture has chips to the corners and areas of filling/adhesive between panels of the veneer.
