SUN YAT-SEN: (1866-1925) Chinese Revolutionary & Political Leader, the founding father of Republican China. An extremely rare D.S., in Chinese characters, one page, large oblong folio (20 x 17), 15th October 1917, in Chinese. The attractive and colourful document being the appointment of Sun Guang Ming, as a member of the fund raising committee in Hong Kong. Signed by Sun Yat-sen in his capacity as Grand Admiral of the Navy armed forces. Also bearing to the recto the red ink seal of the Grand Admiral to the left border. Sun Wen seal alongside the Grand Admiral seal. Documents signed by Sun Yat-sen in Chinese are of extraordinary rarity and seldom appear at auction. Some minor age wear and staining, otherwise G American Book Prices Current only record five letters, and no documents, signed by Sun Yat-sen as having appeared at auction since 1976.

A Chinese blue and white 'nine' dragon bottle vase, Jiaqing mark and period (1796-11820), the rounded sides rising from a short straight foot, to a tapering cylindrical neck, painted with six dragons chasing a flaming pearl amongst trailing clouds and flame scrolls, with three dragons emerging from swirling waves, with a thin band of ruyi below the rim and a thin band of key-fret at the foot, the six character seal mark in underglaze-blue 30.5cm high.Provenance: English private collection since the 1880s. Condition Report: There is a 5cm by 8cm semi-circular section of the rim that has been broken and re-glued. There is also a long arcing crack running from near to the foot across the body, approx 27cmFootnote:The design of nine dragons painted amongst trailing clouds, flame scrolls and swirling waves derives from imperial designs of the earlier Qianlong period (1736-1795). A Jiaqing vase of globular form with a similar design is in the National Palace Museum Taipei, included in the Illustrated Catalogue of Ch’ing Dynasty Porcelain in the National Palace Museum, vol. 2, Tokyo, 1981, pl 93; and one sold at Sotheby’s Hong Kong 02 May1995, lot 86.
