A pair Chinese Qing Dynasty blue and white painted bowls, marked with the seal of the Qianlong Emperor and of the period, with carved hardwood stands and in presentation box, decorated in Ming style with "hai shou" (auspicious sea creatures) amongst cresting waves between painted borders, internally painted with a roundel of a winged dragon against cresting waves, stands are 3 1/4in. (8.5cms) high, bowls are 8 1/4in. (21cms) wide (one bowl broken and re-glued, one bowl with rim chip) both with old paper labels to base "Chien-lung 1736-1795". PROVENANCE: Collection of The Rt.Hon.Sir Conyngham Greene (1854-1934), acquired before 1919 and thence by descent, sold by direction of his family. The bowls were presented to Sir Conyngham Greene whilst His Majesty`s` Ambassador to Tokyo 1912-1919.
