A SET OF FOUR CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE 'KUI DRAGON' BOWLS LATE MING DYNASTY Each painted with a central roundel of a coiled dragon, the exteriors with bands of further beasts divided by floral sprays, each base with a seal mark and a label for Christie's, 14.5cm. A GROUP OF SEVEN CHINESE STONE ITEMS QING DYNASTY AND LATER Comprising: an agate curling leaf-form washer, a pair of jadeite mythical beasts, jade carvings of a three-legged toad and a shell, a lapis lazuli seal with an uncut seal face, and a soapstone square seal, together with two wood stands, 10.5cm max. TWO CHINESE YELLOW SOAPSTONE 'MYTHICAL BEAST' SQUARE SEALS QING DYNASTY OR LATER The larger seal carved to the upper surface with a chilong grasping lingzhi in its mouth, the seal face reads jia zhu wu hu qishisan, signed Sangeng, possibly the name of the carver; the other surmounted by a single-horned beast with its head turned to dexter, the seal face reads jia le mo ru wei shan, each stone of caramel tone, signed Jiekan, the stones with natural veins and creamy-beige inclusions, together with a wooden box with two drawers, 2.9cm and 3.1cm, 11.9cm high the box. SIX CHINESE YIXING TEAPOTS AND COVERS LATE 19TH CENTURY AND LATER Variously shaped and decorated, each mounted with a double metal handle, with various seal marks to the covers and bases, 22.5cm. TWO CHINESE YIXING TEAPOTS AND COVERS 20TH CENTURY One decorated with ginkgo nuts and branches to the ovoid body, the base with an artist's seal reading Wu Yayi Zhi, the leaf-shaped cover with two seals reading Wu and Yayi, the other lobed teapot with sprays of blossoming prunus to the sides, the spout, handle and knop formed as the branches, the cover with two seal marks, 17.5cm and 14.7cm. Provenance: from the collection of Captain Albert Makinson (1880-1961), and thence by descent. Exhibited: Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester, 26th February 1937.
A CHINESE YELLOW JADE BI, A JADE MANDARIN DUCK AND TWO JADEITE ITEMS QING DYNASTY The bi carved with the zodiac animals and the eight trigrams, the mandarin duck on a lotus leaf, a pendant carved with lotus, and an uncut seal with a lion dog finial, one with a wood stand, 7cm. (5) Provenance: from the collection of Brian Tisdall (1934-2008) and Christa Tisdall (1936-88) who lived in Hong Kong from the early 1960s until 1987. Their collection was mostly formed in Hong Kong in the 1970s, they were advised by James C Y Watt and Brian McElney. James C Y Watt is a well known expert in early Chinese jades; Brian McElney is a renowned collector and connoisseur who founded the Museum of East Asian Art, Bath.
A CHINESE 'SHI SOU' STYLE ZITAN SILVER AND GOLD WIRE INLAID INCENSE STICK HOLDER QING DYNASTY The rectangular-section body with canted corners, inlaid with poetic inscriptions to two faces, divided by prunus and pine beside rockwork, all below a waisted neck, the base with a seal mark which reads yu tang, 16.5cm. Cf. Christie's London, 8th November 2011, lot 234, for a related zitan vase.
