A fantastic example of Shoushan stone seal; finely carved with scenes of a Chinese traditional landscape. Since ancient times, the Chinese literati have been using these stones seals to stamp on various artworks. The seals do not only add value to the artworks, they are also frequently used to authenticate the genuineness and value of the art pieces. A 19thC Chinese porcelain lobed dish, decorated with mythical figures in flowing robes before fence, predominantly enamelled in orange, green and blue, on a shaped foot with water and wave border, 27cm W and another similar with red seal mark beneath, 19th century. There is no apparent damage or restoration upon initial inspection, but note colours are muted.
A fine and large pair of bulbous Chinese porcelain vases and covers, the bodies decorated with panels of figures in interior setting, all in pinks, greens and blues, with domed lids, red seal marks beneath, 56cm H. (2) There is no apparent damage or restoration upon initial inspection, as illustrated nothing further to add.
A Chinese porcelain blue and white month cup, with six character Kangxi mark, decorated with orchids emerging from rocks and poem (The delicate fragrance pervades the spacious hall, like music from lofty terraces far away) and seal mark. 5cm H. There is no apparent damage or restoration upon initial inspection.
A large 19th century, Chinese famille rose sgraffito vase with everted rim, decorated with birds and flowers on a yellow ground with seal mark to the base. A.L.S., `Carolina´, one page, 4to, n.p., 19th August 1809, to her son, the future King Francis I, in Italian. The Queen congratulates her son on his thirty-first birthday. The letter bears attractive embossed borders to the front. With blank integral leaf; MARIA LUISA OF PARMA (1751-1819) Queen consort of Spain 1788-1808 as spouse of King Charles IV of Spain. A good A.L.S., Luisa, two pages, 4to, Rome, 30th April 1816, to future King Francis I of the Two Sicilies, in Italian. The Queen states in part to a post-scriptum `After having written the present letter, the King, my husband, has received a letter of the King, your Father, saying…´. With blank integral leaf; MARIA AMALIA OF NAPLES & SICILY (1782-1866) Queen consort of the French 1830-48 as spouse of Louis Philippe I. A.L.S., `Amalia´, one page, 8vo, n.p., 8th March 1803, to her brother the Heir Prince Francis. The Princess states in part `My dear and beloved Francesco, abusing of your goodness, I beg to you if you can send to me a good Chinese piece for…´ Maria Amalia probably refers to the Royal factory of Capo di Monte. With blank address leaf bearing remnants of a former red wax seal; and ANTHONY of Saxony (1755-1836) King of Saxony 1827-36. Known as ''Anthony the Kind''. A.L.S., `Antonio´, two pages, small 4to, Dresden, 27th February 1818, to his brother-in-law King Francis I, in Italian. The King refers to several members of the Royal family. Small overall minor age wear, otherwise VG, 4 £200-300 Francis I of the Two Sicilies (1777-1830) King of the Two Sicilies 1825-30.Ferdinand I (1751-1825) King of Naples & Sicily 1759-1816 and King of the Two Sicilies 1816-25. He was twice deposed from the throne of Naples.
SUN YAT-SEN: (1866-1925) Chinese Revolutionary & Political Leader, the founding father of Republican China. An extremely rare D.S., in Chinese characters, one page, large oblong folio (20 x 17), 15th October 1917, in Chinese. The attractive and colourful document being the appointment of Sun Guang Ming, as a member of the fund raising committee in Hong Kong. Signed by Sun Yat-sen in his capacity as Grand Admiral of the Navy armed forces. Also bearing to the recto the red ink seal of the Grand Admiral to the left border. Sun Wen seal alongside the Grand Admiral seal. Documents signed by Sun Yat-sen in Chinese are of extraordinary rarity and seldom appear at auction. Some minor age wear and staining, otherwise G £30000-£40000 American Book Prices Current only record five letters, and no documents, signed by Sun Yat-sen as having appeared at auction since 1976.
