QI BAISHI (1864-1957) FRUIT AND VEGETABLES A Chinese painting, ink and colour on paper, inscribed and signed Jie Shan Yin Guan zhu zhe zhi, with one artist's seal reading Bai Shi Weng, framed and glazed, with a frame maker's paper label to the reverse, 92cm x 33.5cm. Provenance: formerly from a French deceased estate. Chinese lily bulbs, known as baihe in Chinese, are white skinless ball-shaped roots which contain starchy scale-like sections. They have a slightly perfumed smell, crunchy texture and a sweet taste. There is a homophone of baihe which has the meaning of 'hundreds of years together'. With two little bumblebees, as in this painting, it symbolises 'may you have a wonderful married life for hundreds of years'.齊白石(1864-1957)百年好合 設色紙本 鏡框款識:借山吟館主者製。鈐印:白石翁。來源:購於法國遺產拍賣。附香港畫框店元記製造標籤。

Provenance: from the collection of Carol Cameron who was a British chargée d'affaires in Beijing. QIAN ZAI (1703-93) BAMBOO, PINE AND ROCK A Chinese scroll painting, ink on silk, title-slip by Fan Jia, signed and dated by Qian Zai with three artist's seals, also inscribed and dated to the twelfth year of the Jiaqing period (1808) by Yi Bingshou (1754-1815) with two artist's seals, also with one collector's seal, 104cm x 41cm. Provenance: from the collection of Carol Cameron who was a British chargée d'affaires in Beijing. The painting was purchased from an antique shop in Beijing c.1965.錢載(1703-1793) 伊秉綬題枯木竹石圖 水墨絹本 立軸署簽:錢䕪石先生枯木竹石伊墨卿題,光緒庚寅秋樊嘉署簽。題跋:乾隆年間畫推南華學士䕪石侍郎解子難以並論也,侍郎晚年純伍玄機進乎道矣。嘉慶十二年四月,思定先生借觀於六一堂,汀州伊秉綬。款識:己酉秋窗偶得觀石田先生作雲林筆意遂作此以遣意百福蒼八十二老人錢載。鈐印:錢載、萬松居士、䕪石書畫、墨卿、伊秉綬印、恩亭珍藏。來源:Carol Cameron女士收藏,Carol曾擔任英國駐華大使,在北京工作及生活了10多年,所有字畫於1965年左右購於北京文物商店。註:錢載是乾隆時期著名的士大夫畫家,善水墨,尤工蘭竹。清乾隆進士后授內閣學士兼禮部侍郎,尚書房行走。《四庫全書》總纂,官至二品。

Provenance: formerly the Del Drago Collection; and then the John Pullan Chinese Collection, purchased from Marchant & Son on 11th September 1963. A copy of the invoice is available. A RARE CHINESE SOAPSTONE 'TOAD' SEAL 18TH/19TH CENTURY Carved as a toad sitting upon a square base, rendered with the details of the amphibian's knobbly skin, with a band of interlocking 'T' scrolls to the edge, the underside with nine seal script characters which read chen su lie zhang, han lai shu wang, qiu, 5.5cm. Provenance: from an English private collection, Kent. The characters form an excerpt from the Thousand Character Classic, or Qian Zi Wen, by Zhou Xingsi. The Thousand Character Classic is a poem which has been used to teach children Chinese characters since the sixth century. The poem is comprised of one thousand characters, with each being used only once.十八/十九世紀 壽山石雕金嬋鈕方印印文:辰宿列張。寒來暑往,秋來源:英國肯特郡私人收藏。
Five pieces of Meiji period and earlier Chinese and Japanese porcelain to include ginger jar with theatrical fight scenes in underglaze blue, four-character mark to the base,a dish depicting figures in garden, the other a musician on an ox, two Imari plates and a Japanese plate with children playing and central floral circular panel, impressed and printed square seal to the reverse (5). CONDITION REPORT Minor chips to rim and firing imperfections throughout the plates commensurate with age. The ginger jar has firing imperfections, otherwise OK. The shallow bowl has small chip to rim and firing imperfections, otherwise OK. The plate with man riding ox has small rim chip and firing imperfections. The blue and white plate is heavily chipped and has imperfections. The Imari plates are slightly rubbed and scratched.
A Chinese watercolour scroll painting, probably Qing, 19th century, on a later silk scroll, depicting scholarly retreats in a majestic mountain landscape, signed and dedicated and with two red artist's seals, 52½ x 13in. (133.3 x 33cm.). * Condition: Appears to be an older painting which has had some restoration and has been remounted onto a later silk backing in the mid-20th century. Sharp edged crease to centre right of sheet. Large 2.5 x 1in patch of restoration to paper with repair patches to margin at right of signature, two other much smaller patches below and another small patch below lower seal mark. Two small patches of restoration to centre of painting (one to a small worn hole, one to an insect mark) - two other insect marks to surface of paper to left and below these patches. Two other larger restored patches to centre in lower half of painting. A little light foxing.
A fine Chinese porcelain famille rose baluster vase, 18th / 19th century, underglaze blue Qianlong seal mark to base, possibly of the period, with flared foot and upstanding neck, finely painted and enamelled with a pair of phoenixes and a crane, perched on pierced rockwork in a garden landscape with bamboo and extensive flowers including peonies, chrysanthemums and roses, the rim painted with floral motifs above a diaperwork and ruyi pendant collar, 14in. (35.5cm.) high, with pierced and silver wire inlaid hardwood cover. * Condition: Minor gilt wear. No other faults - very good overall. Remnants of old label beneath cover.
A set of five Chinese porcelain blue and white dishes, Kangxi period (1662-1722), painted with two female figures conversing on a fenced garden terrace, within a border of foliage and flowers, 9¼in. (23.5cm.) diameter, one dish with wax seal and cloth label for Duveen of Liverpool, another with remnant of seal, all with numbered paper label to base, '37'. (5) * Condition: Small rim chip to one dish. The other four dishes very good with no faults. A couple of minor glaze scratches and tiny glaze rubs.
A Chinese porcelain famille rose verte bowl, early 20th century, printed four character mark to base and wax seal, further prick engraved character mark just above foot, the exterior enamelled with a floral tendril, the interior with a foliate roundel, on a circular foot, 6 3/8in. (16.2cm.) diameter; together with a Chinese porcelain leaf shaped dish, early 20th century, with channelled rim, painted with a bird in a blossom tree and calligraphic inscription, 10 3/8in. (26.3cm.) long. (2) * Condition: - Bowl: Wear to enamel to interior. Small shallow chip to rim. Several chips to inside of footrim. Some wear to printed mark to base. - Dish: Chip to one corner and glaze chipping around the rim in places. Some rubbing to painted decoration. Gilt wear to rim.
A Chinese watercolour scroll painting, probably early 20th century, depicting scholars and pine trees in an extensive mountain landscape, signed, inscribed and with two red artist's seal marks, 59 x 31¾in. (150 x 80.5cm.). * Condition: Some light dirt marks to edges from handling and larger patch of dirty marks to surface of paper to left of signature & inscription. Small crease top left. Otherwise good.
Three Chinese Famille Rose porcelain footed dishes, each having Tongzhi (1862-1874) seal marks to bases, probably of the period, the first - octofoil form, coloured in turquoise, blues and pinks, decorated with a pond scene with ducks, birds and insects, 7 1/8in. (18cm.) diameter; the second - octofoil form, coloured in yellow, orange, pinks and turquoise, decorated with central roundel with a flowerhead, flanked with daily objects with ribbon swags, the yellow border with bats and clouds, 7 1/8in. (18cm.) diameter; the third - of square form with cantered corners, coloured in a bright pallet, featuring floral decorated roundels to the centre, 6 1/8in. (15.6cm.) wide, together with a smaller footed bowl, having four character seal mark to base and two large tea bowls with ribbed design and decorated with floral sprays, seal marks to bases. (6) * Condition: The square footed dish with rubbing to some of the roundels; the two octofoil dishes with frits to edges, some rubbing to decoration, other pieces with very little wear.
Four 19th century Chinese supper dishes, three with Tongzhi seal marks, 14- 20cmCONDITION: All three have faded enamels and worn gilt, the larger of the lobed circular dishes has got a large crack starting from the centre running to the edge and then down through the foot. The smaller has had repaired damage to a 4/5in. section to one side.

A Chinese blue and white bottle vase, floral design; together with a Chinese famille verte bottle vase, elephant mask handles, seal mark to base (2) CONDITION REPORT: Blue and white - 28cm high. A Chinese Antique Bronze Bowl & Cover with Two Seals marks. With malachite accretions to the surface and signs of long burial; the diagonal impressions to the accretions on the bowl suggest it lay at an angle on top of another vessel. Different seal marks to both cover and base. To the cover this reads 'Monk in Kyoto' and to the base it reads 'Chu Xiu Gong' otherwise known as Palace of Gathered Elegance in Beijing's Forbidden City notable among the consorts who lived here though the Ming and Qing dynasties was the Empress Dowager Cixi. Diameter 14cm.Provenance: from the collection of the late Brian Page (1938-2018), the well-known Oriental art and antiques dealer from Brighton.
