Lot 247

18th century Chinese or Tibetan gilt bronze and iron seal stamp. With ornate scrollwork decoration throughout.Height: 2 1/2 in x diameter: 3/4 in.Condition: No major dents or losses. No visible cracks. Wear and discoloration due to oxidation throughout. Dust collected along the recessed area. To the neck, there is a hole as shown in the listing image. Along the underside, there is an uneven area due to losses; please see the listing image.

A very fine group of four porcelain Chinese plaques from the PRC period; all framed and well decorated. Inscriptions with seal marks in the upper right corners. All depict courtly maidens in gardens in delicate famille rose enamels.Each, sight; height: 14 1/2 in x width: 9 1/2 in. Framed; height: 17 1/2 x width: 12 1/2 in.Condition: There are no visible restorations, cracks, major losses, or major scratches. There is some light rubbing to the surface along the upper left corner of the plaque pictured top right. Some extremely light wear throughout consistent with age. Wear to the frames including some splits to the wood. The verso of the plaques could not be inspected due to the nature of the framing.

With a red seal along the right edge below the calligraphy. Housed in a frame under glass.Provenance: The collection of Bruce Dayton and Ruth Stricker Dayton - Selections from The Marsh, Minnetonka, Minnesota.Sight; height: 9 1/2 in x width: 20 in. Framed; height: 15 in x width: 25 in.Condition: Fan shows numerous areas of damage and wear from use as a fan. The fan has been mounted on a piece of paper, which shows extensive foxing, visible by shining a light through the paper fan one can see several repairs there appear to be some minor losses to the top edge of the fan. Paper shows numerous creases as associated with fans that were actually used and unmounted.

Chinese Yixing inscribed stoneware tea caddy. Of tapered form with rounded shoulders and a short neck. With a seal script encircling lid. Stamped along the base with "Chen Dinghe Taoqi Chang Zi" studio mark, Republic period.Height: 5 3/4 in x diameter: 2 3/4 in.Condition: Light wear throughout. No visible chips to the rim, footrim, and edge of the lid. There is a minute dent that is discolored dark along the neck. Along the exterior towards the footrim and along the underside, there is an area with adhesive residue that is fluorescent under UV light. No visible sign of restoration under UV light. Dust collected.

Small round late 19th century Chinese porcelain brush washer, glazed to resemble Yuan Jun ware. Stamped with red export seal.Height: 1 1/2 in x diameter: 3 1/4 in.Condition: No visible cracks, losses, or signs of restoration under UV light. No chips to the rim; minute chips to the footrim, which do not alter the overall appearance of the item. Original glazing flaw to the exterior as shown in the listing image. To the glazing flawed area, there is a minute original firing flaw. Along the underside, the footrim is discolored dark. To the inner circle of the footrim, there is an adhesive residue.

Chinese fan painting after Zhou Zhiyuan (Chinese, 17th century; late Ming). Ink and color on paper depicting a flower branch with pink blossoms. With calligraphy and a red seal along the right edge. Housed in a frame under glass.Provenance: The collection of Bruce Dayton and Ruth Stricker Dayton - Selections from The Marsh, Minnetonka, Minnesota.Sight; height: 9 in x width: 19 1/2 in. Framed; height: 15 in x width: 25 in.Condition: The fan has been affixed to a paper backing. Some losses to the gilt and painted decoration throughout. No apparent restorations, rips, tears, or creases. Creases and tears to the paper backing along all corners and edges, not visible when the matboard is present. The paper backing is hinged along the top right corner; the hinge has come loose along the top left corner. There is a tideline along the lower edge of the matboard and paper backing; this does not seem to affect the fan itself. Light wear to the frame; framed under glass.

The spout has a large area of damage to the end, otherwise the piece appears to be in good condition though arguably with wear and tear conducive with age and use including some firing faults to the glaze, particularly to the lid and including minor spots. Satsuma teapot has two areas of damage to the lid and another area of damage just above the foot to the edge - see images for further detail
