A pair of Chinese cylindrical vases, decorated with figures and fence with square seal mark to base. Height 28 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Both vases appear to be in good order. There are no chips and no cracks. We can see no evidence of any restoration. The gilding around the top rim is a little rubbed in places and the vases are dirty inside. But other than this the condition is very good.

A Chinese vase, decorated with figures in a garden and with seal mark to base, lip restored. Height 22.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The vase rim has been professionally restored. It has been overpainted and is a little yellowed. The enamel decoration is in generally good condition with only very minor paint losses. We can see no cracks and no evidence of any other restoration than to the top lip.

A rare Worcester blue and white guglet c.1760-65, the pear-shaped body rising to a slender neck with bulbous knop and flared rim, painted with the Arabesque Panel Landscapes pattern, with shaped panels of Chinese figures in island settings reserved on a powder blue ground, blue square seal mark and open crescent mark, some damages, 29cm. Provenance: The Godden Reference Collection W19; The Zorensky Collection Y.614; J W Goldsmith Collection. Illustrated: Branyan, French and Sandon, Worcester Blue and White Porcelain, I.B.25, at which point it was the only recorded example of this pattern.

A LARGE PORCELAIN FAMILLE ROSE 'BAJIXIANG' TRIPOD INCENSE BURNERChina, late Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). Apocryphal Jiaqing seal mark in a horizontal line in iron red. The globular body with pierced upright curved handles on each side and three stoutly rounded cabriole legs. The censer is sturdily potted and enameled on the body with the Eight Buddhist Emblems, Bajixiang, amidst lotus flowers and tendrils extending onto the legs, all reserved against a lime-green ground. Pink bats are flanking the handles, the waisted neck is encircled by floral scroll below a key-fret band on the galleried rim. With matching base and cover both beautifully carved from dark wood, the lid is flanked with a whitish jade handle with dark streaks.This incense burner is likely to have been part of a five-piece altar garniture set, known as the 'Five Offerings' (wugong 五供), which were widely used in Buddhist rituals to seek protection from the deities. In shape and decoration, the vessels included in these sets, which also comprised a pair of candlesticks and wine containers, recall those employed to perform ancestral sacrifices during the Shang and Zhou periods. Restoring the ancient Chinese ways through the reinterpretation of archaic forms was viewed by the Qing rulers as one way to reinstate the importance of performing filial acts, the core value of Confucian thought that legitimized the emperors' right to rule.Condition: Very good condition with some minor, age-related wear, some minor flakes and glaze chips. PINE AND CLIFFS', SIGNATURE OF WANG MENG (1308-1385)Ink and watercolors on silk. Dramatically painted with a gnarled pine tree in front of high towering cliffs, with a small house hidden between them, further cliffs and mountains building up in the background. With a silk brocade frame and mounted as a hanging scroll with fine handles.Inscriptions: Top right, signed Huanghe shanren Wang Meng, two seals. Top center-right, poem and signature of Qian Pu (1408-1488), a Ming official and calligrapher, two seals 'Qian Pu' and 'Zi Yuanpu'. Top center-left, signature and poem of Wang Shuying (d. 1402), a Ming scholar and official, one seal 'Yuancai'.The exterior of the scroll inscribed: Yuanren shuhua ('Painting from the Yuan Dynasty').
