A 20th century Chinese 'Peking' glass round box. Decorated with a writhing dragon over waves in deep blue glass over a dense fan diaper pattern in clear colourless glass. A four character Qianlong seal mark to base. Diameter 24.2cm. Box. Condition Report: Appears in excellant condition, no chips, cracks or restoration. Some light surface marks.
Three 20th century Zisha clay teapots. The lots comprising a domed shaped teapot depicting flowering plum blossom and Chinese calligraphy by Wang Yaqin (small chip to the lid); a terracotta coloured teapot decorated with Qianlong coin relief with a toad finial to lid; and a teapot decorated with peaches and leaves with lid. Impressed seal mark to the base and within the lid. Largest measures approx. 9cm tall x 17cm long.

A Chinese famille rose porcelain bowl and cover, early 20th century. Decorated with figures in a landscape, red seal mark, height 12.8cm and another similar, height 12cm. (2)Each have small chips to top of cover, small nicks to base rim of cover and each have a small chip to the top rim of the lower part.

With two female figures in a garden setting, opposed by calligarphy, red seal to underside, height 11.5cm, width 17.5cm, another similar Chinese porcelain teapot, early 20th century, height 10.5cm and 11cm and a Chinese porcelain wine ewer, circa 1900, height 13cm, width 10cm. (3)Wine ewer has a large piece missing from the top rim. No damage to teapots.
A chinese scroll depicting fish in a pond with lily pads, with Chinese character marks and two red seal marks. '原曾知樂方為樂首说忘機便有樣丁亥六暑寡生遺與望產' 'Originally, Zeng Zhile (曾知樂) was the chief of music (樂首). He spoke about 'forgetting worldly concerns' (忘機), saying that there is a pattern to it. In the year of Dinghai (丁亥, a year in the Chinese zodiac), during the sixth month of summer, a person of few desires (寡生) left behind something and hoped for a legacy.' overall size 204 x 48 cm, image size 110 x 35 cms.
A mid 20th century Chinese painted scroll, depicting an extensive landscape scene with trees and buildings, figures walking and mountains in the distance, with Chinese character marks and red seal mark, '部前落雳吴江清晓软呀竟' 'Before the storm, at Wujiang, the soft dawn quietly approached, as if unexpectedly.' '柿的不列,南山同影该俑移松升结柠读预防私雪后意蛴髓著' "The persimmons are not in order. The southern mountain casts its shadow, and the clay figures shift, pine trees rise, forming knots. The lemons are readied as a precaution for snow's aftermath, with concerns even in the marrow.' Overall size 194 x 46 cms, image size 126 x 31 cms.
VICTORIA: (1819-1901) Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland 1837-1901. A good D.S., Victoria R I, as Queen, at the head, one page, oblong folio, Court at Saint James´, 1st April 1891. The partially printed document, completed in manuscript, is a consular appointment and states, in part, ´Whereas We have thought it necessary for the maintenance of a good understanding and correspondence between Our Subjects and those belonging to The Emperor of China, and for the advancement and encouragement of the Trade of Our Subjects to and from the Dominions of the said Emperor......to appoint some person to discharge the office of Vice-Consul for the Consular District of Pagoda Island to reside at Pagoda Island......Now know Ye, that We reposing especial trust and confidence in the discretion and faithfulness of Our trusty and well beloved Michie Forbes Anderson Fraser have nominated, constituted, and appointed.....the said Michie Forbes Anderson Fraser to be Our Vice-Consul for the Consular District of Pagoda Island.....Hereby giving and granting unto him full power and authority, under the superintendence of Our Consul at Foochow, by all lawful means to aid and protect Our said Merchants and others.....´ Countersigned at the foot by the Marquess of Salisbury (1830-1903) British Prime Minister 1885-86, 1886-92 and 1895-1902 who also served as Foreign Secretary 1878-80, 1885-86, 1887-92 and 1895-1900. With blind embossed paper seal affixed. Some very light, extremely minor age wear, VGMichie Forbes Anderson Fraser (1850-1931) British diplomat who held various posts within the Chinese Consular Service in the late 19th century, retiring in 1901.
MOZAFFAR AD-DIN SHAH QAJAR: (1853-1907) Qajar Shah of Iran 1896-1907. A good, large D.S., in Persian, as Shah, within a boteh motif, one page, large folio (approx. 56 x 68 cm), n.p., Rabi´ al-Awwal 1314 (May/June 1897), in Persian. The manuscript document is a Royal firman and states, in part, ´Since it is incumbent upon Our Royal ambition and esteemed Imperial duty that each servant of the Imperial Court, who treads the path of loyalty and devotion with sincerity, be honoured with a gift, we have thus decreed. Among the noble people and victims of our eternal state, Mirza Hossein Khan Sadiq Humayun, a special attendant in the Royal presence, who has been engaged in service with honesty, sincerity, and competence for many years, deserves an expansion of his livelihood. Therefore, for the improvement of his livelihood and according to the approval of His Excellency the Prime Minister, we have granted him an amount of seven hundred tumans without deductions for taxes as a stipend, and ten kharvars of grain, from this year Pichi´il (Chinese Year of the Monkey) to be received in full as detailed above. In return, and as a sign of gratitude, he will try even harder to serve and sacrifice himself for the sake of His Majesty the Shah....´. The document features a Tughra and a seal at the head enclosed within a highly decorative and intricate gold and polychrome illuminated design. NASER AL-DIN SHAH QAJAR: (1831-1896) Shah of Qajar Iran 1848-96. Assassinated. D.S., in Persian, as Shah, within a boteh motif, one page, folio, n.p., Rajab al-Murajab 1300 (May/June 1883), in Persian. The manuscript document is a Royal firman and states, in part, ´An amount of four hundred and twenty-three tumans from the Supreme Treasury is granted annually as expenses to the esteemed Mahdi-Qoli Khan Bakhtiari, to be given in the form of a draft in the Imperial retinue. In this strong year of Qoy´il (the Chinese Year of the Sheep) we elevate the esteemed individual to the position of a special servant and establish this Royal favour as a stipend for him, to be received annually through the drafts of the Royal guardhouse, and to engage in his duties accordingly. It is decreed that Abdullah Khan Keshikchi Bashi honour Mahdi-Qoli Khan with this position and ensure that his respect is duly considered.....´. FATH-ALI SHAH QAJAR: (1769-1834) Shah of Qajar Iran 1797-1834. D.S., in Persian, as Shah, one page, folio, n.p., month of Ramadan 1241 (April 1825), in Persian. The manuscript document is a Royal firman and states, in part, ´In accordance with the decree of Our former Padishah, noble descendant Mirza Muhammad Ali Isfahani was appointed to manage the Lumban district, receiving a salary of thirty tumans in cash and thirty kharvars in goods. In this auspicious year of It´il (the Chinese Year of the Dog) and in future years, we extend this decree to His Excellency Sayf ol-Dowleh Soltan Mohammad Mirza, the Governor of the Dar al-Saltanah of Isfahan, and the convergence of infinite Royal affections and honours. We have decreed and bestowed this position along with the stipulated stipend to him, to be received annually and used for his livelihood, and with utmost diligence, to perform the duties of the said position. It is decreed to that fortunate son to instruct his officials to recognise the said position as exclusive to him, to refer the necessary responsibilities of the mentioned position to him, and that no one else is authorised to intervene in that position. He should record the accounts of the mentioned district and annually ensure the full amount of cash and goods is delivered to him without any deductions, while securing a renewed guarantee for claims´.
