A rare Arita blue and white Dish, c.1830, painted in the centre with the hare gazing at the moon within waves, the rim with false gadroons, pine, prunus, bamboo and chrysanthemum within a brown glazed pie crust rim, the underside with waves, four character seal mark of Daoguang, chip, cracks, wear, 28cm It is rare to find as late a Chinese reign mark as Daoguang (1821-50) on Japanese porcelain; Ming marks are far more common. Condition Report A number of cracks running from rim down sides. One of these cracks has losses to rim associated with it. Wear to glaze, especially in centre.
