A Chinese patinated bronze two handled hu vase, probably 18th/19th century, with apocryphal Xuande six character mark to base, red brown patination, the slightly tapered square neck with square rim and two elephant handles, each side with a shaped reserve, two with figures in mountain landscapes, the other two with diaper work, the body with a band of keywork with archaic dragons, the flared foot with key work decoration, 12¼in. (31.2cm.) high. * Good patina overall - interior has general dirt and residue from use as a vase over many years. The base has old (probably early 20th century) putty pushed into the seam between the body and base, presumably in an attempt to seal tiny holes in the past when it was used as a vase and leaked water. There is a small spot of creamy coloured residue on the surface of the bronze in the dragon keywork band, and there is a larger, fainter patch of verdigris to the surface of the bronze on the foot, just above the keywork band - this is very old and there is a small flake from the surface of the metal here. No other damage to bronze.
