A Chinese famille rose vase, probably Republican period, early 20th century, of pear form, finely painted with two birds in flowering branches, two white hares below, the flared base with a band of millefleurs, iron-red Yongzheng seal mark to lower body, base drilled, 35.5cm.high. Illustrated.

A massive Chinese yellow ground dish, Guangxu, incised in the centre with two dragons chasing a flaming pearl, one in green enamels, the other in aubergine, the cavetto with sprays of lotus, peony, prunus and chrysanthemum, the rim with six further dragons, the underside with four dragons beneath cranes, four character seal mark, Chuxiu Gong Zhi, 64cm. diam, (a.f). Illustrated. It has been suggested that these large dishes in Kangxi style marked Chuxiu Gong Zhi( made for the Palace of Assembled Elegance) were ordered for the Empress Dowager Cixi for her own use when she was residing at the Chuxiu Gong, the Palace of Assembled Elegance, in the Imperial Palace.
