A porcelain bowl, with a narrow circular foot and a rounded body that widens slightly towards the mouth, which is covered with a fine golden colour. It is decorated with coloured enamels meticulously depicting beautiful butterflies with outstretched wings, alternating with the Chinese characters ‘?’ for double happiness, symbol of prosperity and union, which together with the symbolism of the butterfly, representing longevity, give great significance to the piece. Three enamelled porcelain objects. The lot consists of a plate with famille rose decorations, characters and traditional Chinese elements; a small vase with a continuous ‘Bogu Hua’ scene of vases, incense burners and other elements; and finally a small circular compartmentalized box decorated with large banana leaves. The vase shows a four-character seal on the base. With age wear. Plate diameter: 25.3 cm; Vase height: 11 cm; Box height: 12 cm
It consists of two parts made of carved Chenxiangmu wood. The upper part is in the form of a large bowl with rounded walls that tapers towards the mouth. The surface is decorated with details in low relief, showing a continuous scene of seven buddhas, seated on lotus thrones, with their hands forming various mudras. All of this takes place against a background of sinuous, auspicious clouds, framed by an upper border of ruyis and a lower border of small petals. The foot that supports the censer is free-standing, in the shape of an hourglass, which gives the piece greater stability. The outside of the piece has a network of twisted clouds with openwork, incised and embossed details that cover the entire piece except for the area in contact with the censer. On the base of the vessel there are three engraved inscriptions, the first of which is arranged in the form of a circle, to be read clockwise, which reads: ‘????????????????????????’. The next two inscriptions are arranged vertically in the centre of the circle; the first one consists of six lines with a total of 46 characters ‘??????,??????,????,?????????????,????,?????,???????’; and next to this is placed on the left side, the signature and seal ‘??’ ‘???’. Chenxiangmu wood is one of the most appreciated in Chinese culture for its medicinal and aromatic qualities, being even used as incense. There are few large-scale figures carved from this wood, as it is extremely rare. These types of objects are usually closely related to the Buddhist religion, where they are used as elements for worship, prayer and ceremony. A small painting in ink on silk on a frame of brocaded silk and paper.The beautiful painting depicts a calm landscape amidst steep mountains, from which emerges a large leaning pine branch, behind which is hidden a building of traditional Chinese architecture.The painting is signed in the upper right corner as ‘?????’ ‘???’, next to a seal. Sun Junze (14th century) was a prominent painter during the Yuan dynasty, born in Hangzhou, who was renowned for his delicate traditional paintings of characters and landscapes influenced by the styles employed during the Ming dynasty. Three more seals are arranged in the lower corners of the painting.At the top of the frame is a paper cartouche with inscriptions in ink, which refer to who may have been one of the owners of the painting ‘???’ ‘????’. Yang Borun (1837 - 1911), was also an important artist of the Qing dynasty; a disciple of Dong Qichang, he was noted for his paintings and calligraphies now sold all over the world. A short poem ‘?????,??,????,???’ is arranged next to the signature and seal.In good condition, with age wear. Yuan Dynasty (1279 - 1368) or later. It is decorated with light pastel ‘pink family’ enamels that form a continuous scene of small traditional Chinese objects alternating with medallions of flowers.
