A PAIR OF CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE PORCELAIN BOWLS 20th century, each bearing six character seal marks to the base, decorated with a processional scene of figures and beasts, 5.5cm high x 11.8cm wide; together with another similar bowl, 5cm high; and a dish, 13.5cm wide (4)Provenance: Thomas Child (1841 - 1898) was a pioneering photographer who produced a large body of photographs during his time in Beijing during the 1870's. He was close to the Emperor and the court. The family believe a number of objects were gifts from the Imperial family.

FOUR CHINESE SNUFF BOTTLESQING DYNASTYOne painted with a dignitary on horseback and his attendant, outlined against a black ground; another of meiping shape with a metallic glaze; a third of globular form with a green crackle glaze; and one jade, carved in low relief with a stag and a bird in a rocky landscape beneath pine trees; together with a soapstone seal of square section surmounted by a chilong with a lingzhi spray in its jaws; and two jade pebble pendants, the stones of celadon colour with dark russet inclusions, 8.2cm max. (7)Provenance: from the collection of Colonel William Edmund Pye (1872-1949). Commissioned into the British Army in 1892, he served with the Indian Army in Tirah between 1897-98, then in 1900 was sent to China as the leader of the British Section of the International Police. It was at this time he started his collection, which has passed by decent to the current owner. Other items from his collection were sold at Christie’s South Kensington, 13th May 2011.

A collection of mainly Chinese porcelain items including a 19th Century Chinese lozenge shaped famille rose dish on oval foot, 20.5 cm x 13.8 cm, three 19th Century Chinese celadon glazed famille rose plates, each with different blue under glaze seal mark, approx 19 cm diameter, a famille noire polychrome floral decorated ginger jar bearing faux Qianlong over glazed oxide red printed seal mark, 18.5 cm high, a Chinese oxide red glazed floral decorated plate with faux Qianlong mark, 22.5 cm diameter, a blue glazed floral and foliate decorated stem cup with six character mark to base, 11 cm diameter x 11.8 cm high, two prunus blossom decorated ginger jars, a Chinese cloisonné bowl with water dragon decoration, bearing four character seal mark to base, 20 cm diameter, a Chinese verdigris patinated bronze wine vessel in the archaic manner, 18 cm high and a Japanese Satsuma baluster shaped vase decorated with warriors and a battle scene bearing four character seal mark to base, 21 cm high CONDITION REPORTS The lozenge shaped stand / dish has been broken and repaired in various places. Has significant firing faults, some chips to the base and roughness to the other edges. The celadon glazed plates - two have hairline fractures. All three have some roughness to the edges and losses to the decoration, particularly to the smaller of the three. There are some small chips to the edges. The famille noire ginger jar has some roughness / firing faults to the glaze and looks a bit patchy in areas. The lid has a small chip to the underside. The red oxide plate has some significant wear to the decoration throughout. Both ginger jars are very light. Otherwise general wear and tear. The cloisonne bowl has some white residue throughout, particularly to the base of the dish and the underside. The underside doesn't look quite right - unsure if something has been later let in or if badly manufactured in the first place. There are some small dings and knocks to the cloisonne throughout resulting in some areas of loss and other areas of bruising. The goblet type vessel has a large firing fault to the base. There is crazing throughout and some minor chips, remains of paint, etc. The patinated bronze wine vessel has some surface scratches, etc. The Satsuma vase has all-over crazing and some losses to the decoration. Otherwise all items have various general wear and tear conducive with age and use and are in need of a clean. See images for further detail.
A pair of Chinese turquoise glazed gu vases of flared square form, the main bodies decorated with acanthus and panels of exotic beasts, raised on a gilt brass foot, bears over glazed oxide red seal mark, 20.3 cm high, together with a modern Chinese famille rose turquoise ground jar and cover and a Chinese turquoise ground relief decorated ginger jar and cover with crane and water lily pattern CONDITION REPORTS The pair of vases both have damage to a top corner. Both have had repairs although one is still missing pieces. The brass bases appear to be later add ons with mastic type glue to base. Wear to the gilding, etc. throughout. The ginger jar with applied decoration has various firing faults and surface scratches, losses in the glaze, etc. All items with general wear and tear conducive with age and use.
