A Chinese bronze 'gold splash' censer, Qing Dynasty, the ovoid body with branch handles and supported on three fruit and leaf feet, Xuande two character seal mark to base, 19cm wide handle to handle and 12.5cm high, 1543g Provenance: Collected in the 1930's by Lieutenant-Commander Ninian Scott-Elliot, 1911-1998 and by descent. After an education at Eton, Scott-Elliot joined the Royal Navy and was soon serving on gunboats patrolling the Upper Yangtze River. He won a distinguished Service Cross as well as being mentioned in Dispatches when serving in the Royal Navy in the Second World War. Subsequently he settled on an island in the Solomon group where he developed a large estate and behaved like a benevolent nineteenth-century laird. ? 19?? ????????? ????:???????? A PAIR OF CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE ENAMEL BOXES AND COVERS LATE QING DYNASTY Each with a compressed circular body raised on a flared waisted foot, painted with cartouches containing various figures in landscapes against a blue ground with dense decoration of flowers, fruit, fans and scrolls, six character Qianlong seal marks to the bases, 22.5cm. (4) Provenance: formerly in the collection of Henry Cahill Sheridan, Assistant Director General of the Indian Post Service, acquired c.1900.

A CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE LADLE AND A BOWL 19TH /20TH CENTURY The ladle painted with four flowerheads and scrolling foliage on a bright yellow ground, with four characters which read wan shou wu jiang, a six character Guangxu mark to the base, the bowl decorated to the exterior with four Buddhist emblems between key fret bands and a four character Hongxian seal mark to the base, 22cm. A CHINESE BLUE AND RED 'DRAGON' DISH SIX CHARACTER QIANLONG SEAL MARK AND OF THE PERIOD 1736-95 With a shallow S-shaped body with an everted rim, supported on a short foot, painted to the well with a red five-clawed dragon against blue crashing waves within two concentric bands, the exterior with nine further red dragons against waves and a floral band to the rim, 17.5cm. Cf. Tian Wu Guan Cang Ci, Vol I, pp.220-221 for plates of the same design.
