Chinese Art A monumental tianqiuping vase in white porcelain decorated with peaches and flowers and bearing a Qianlong iron red seal mark at the baseChina, late 19th - early 20th century . . Cm 61,00. Large globular vase (tianqiuping) of very fine execution. The heavily potted body has a lively polychrome decoration, with the classic auspicious subject of the "nine peaches". The beautiful theme of the two twin peach trees that weave their branches around the entire surface of the vase, a particularly beloved subject throughout the eighteenth century, is symbolic and auspicious and bases its visual strength on the delicate balance of the nine fruits that stand out against the white surface of the porcelain.

CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN ‘BAJIXIANG’ EWER AND COVER, 20th CENTURY The pouring vessel modelled on the archaic bronze ‘He’, a ritual wine vessel. The globular body and diagonally set spout supported by four legs with a squat neck leading into a curved handle and cover. Decorated with ‘Bajixiang’, the eight Buddhist emblems. The interior base of the spout has seven separate holes. Qianlong seal mark to base but later. Together with a hardwood stand with carved Yin-Yang emblem. 23.5cm length 22.5cm tall without stand. Heath had an attraction to this form. During his time in Hong Kong, he attended a Christie’s sale of ‘Fine Chinese Ceramics, Jade and Works of Art’ at the Mandarin Hotel on 13th January 1987. Duveen & Sons, Liverpool; private collection, consigned via our Cardiff office Auctioneer's Note: Legendary Dutch dealer Joseph Duveen set up shop in Hull in 1866, followed by Liverpool, and eventually as his empire grew, in London, Paris and finally New York, where his dealership was patronised by the millionaire elite of American society. His canny marketing ensured that the collecting of antique blue and white delft, Chinese Kangxi porcelain and Old master paintings became extremely fashionable, and he dominated the art market around the turn of the 19th Century.
