ENTOMOLOGY INTEREST - Unusual Chinese glazed earthenware plate of canted square form, the hand-finished decoration comprising a large, central female wasp spider in its web surrounded by a variety of other insects, including a locust, hornet, beetles and other arachnids,the base with orange seal mark

A Chinese Republic yellow ground floor vase, of baluster form, decorated with various figures on horseback within landscape, having blue seal mark verso, height 62cm.Appears to have a lot of later over-painting, which has crazed over time.Several chips all over.

Three Chinese porcelain vases, 20th century, one of rouleau form painted in a famille-verte palette in Kangxi style with pheasants on rocks, two in Republic style, one damaged (46cm) (3) The large vase has a 15cm piece away from the top lip and has been re-glued badly and also has a thumbnail sized chip around the edge.  The rest of the vase appears in good general overall order although some dirt and discolouration is noted which would probably clean off.  Quite nice bright colours on the big vase and a pleasing scene.  Chinese characters to reverse and seal mark to the underside.  It is noted that the lamp has been drilled for electricity at the back and there is a small hole in the lappets at the bottom.  The bottle vase porcelain lamp appears newer and is sitting upon a carved wooden pierced base.  Condition appears good on this.  The smaller famille vert vase appears in good general overall order with no cracks, chips or restoration noted.

A rare Qianlong mark and probably period, copper red porcelain vase, the pearl body with flared mouth and foot and under an overall deep red, slightly mottled, glaze, the foot purple, the glaze stopping nearly at mouth and foot, barely visible scratch, six character seal mark in underglaze blue, 31cm. (For a similar vase, 29cm high and with a similar mark, see Sotheby's Hong Kong 8th October 2010, Lot 2656)PLEASE NOTE: THERE WILL BE NO LIVE INTERNET BIDDING ON THIS LOT, ANYBODY WISHING TO BID ON LOT 84 IS REQUIRED TO LODGE A £3,000 DEPOSIT WITH THE AUCTIONEERS NO LATER THAN 6.00PM ON WEDNESDAY 16TH OCTOBER. ANY DEPOSITS LODGED ARE FULLY REFUNDABLE IF YOU ARE NOT THE WINNING BIDDER.Generally the vase is in good overall untouched original condition with no restoration, chips, cracks or hairlines etc., although it does exhibit a slight scratch to the glaze.  There are two areas where the glaze is un-uniform and significantly lighter and these areas are approx. 1cm square each.  There are minor pin head sized pieces away from the glaze overall body, the foot rim appears slightly darker than the main body and there is a small original firing blemish to the underside.  Except for these “minor faults” the vase is in good general overall condition with no major problems.  There is interest at the £40,000 - £60,000 level.  We have had several people of high stature in the Chinese ceramic world look at this and the piece is generally considered to be definitely mark and period and there are no cracks, chips, hairlines or restorations noted.

(13.7cm.) diameter; together with four other saucers, Kangxi and Qianlong period, all a/f, two with Duveen of Liverpool wax seal labels. (6)* Condition: - Pair: One with small hairline, the other with three small rim chips and two hairlines.- Others: Three with glued repairs to rim, the fourth with large chip to rim.

A Chinese Qing style polished bronze vase, 20th century, the cylindrical stem raised with a dragon, on shouldered body raised with further dragons, orbs, on circular foot, seal mark beneath, complete with hardwood stand, 9¼in. (23.5cm.) high.

A Chinese archaic style patinated bronze ewer, probably early 20th century, flattened baluster form with sinuous dragon handle and chased lappet decoration with stylised beast head motifs, a taotie mask band above the keywork flared foot, seal mark in archaic script cast to base, 10¼in. (26cm.) high.* Condition: Good condition with no faults. Minor wear to patination to edges. 

A set of five Chinese porcelain blue and white dishes, Kangxi period (1662-1722), painted with two female figures conversing on a fenced garden terrace, within a border of foliage and flowers, 9¼in. (23.5cm.) diameter, one dish with wax seal and cloth label for Duveen of Liverpool, another with remnant of seal, all with numbered paper label to base, '37'. (5)* Condition: Small rim chip to one dish. The other four dishes very good with no faults. A couple of minor glaze scratches and tiny glaze rubs. 

An antique Chinese watercolour on silk of a bird, probably 19th century, the white feathered bird perched upon a peony branch, signed with four red seal marks and inscribed with black calligraphy, lined black border, 25½ x 16 3/8in. (64.75 x 41.5cm.), in a modern giltwood frame with bevelled mount. *Condition: Colours bright. Some sooty dirty marks and small scuffs visible to silk and it has been rolled at some time - it is a little cockled and there are some small vertical crease marks and some light horizontal crease marks to the centre areas from that rolling. A line of spot spill marks visible at a diagonal across the upper third of the painting - there are signs that an attempt has been made to restore these at some time, leaving feint, slightly darker-than-background marks around the spot marks. Two small patches of damage to the surface of the silk at lower centre right margin and a few dirty marks to silk at lower right corner.

A Chinese porcelain famille rose figure of an Immortal, probably late 19th / early 20th century, polychrome enamelled and enriched with gilt, the bearded figure holding a ruyi sceptre and dressed in red dragon robes, impressed seal mark to base, 18¾in. (47.5cm.) high.* Condition: Gilt wear, two large glaze chips to hat and some glaze flaking. No other faults.
