A Canadian metalwares silver twin handled tankard, stamped BIRKS STERLING with raised upper and lower rims engraved RMGC CAPTAIN'S PRIZE 1903, two simple scroll handles, gilt washed interior, 10cm diameter at the rim, 12cm high, 13.5oztAs the headquarters of Birks Silverware is in Montreal, the initials on the tankard may refer to the Royal Montreal Golf Club.
A George II silver tankard, mark of Benjamin West (1739 - 1750), London, date letter indecipherable, of traditional baluster form with capped double scroll handle, later decorative scroll and foliate engraving around a vacant escutcheon shaped cartouche, raised on a spread foot, 12cm high, 11.2oztOverall in good condition with no obvious sign of repair. Some minor surface scratches as to be expected. No obvious sign of erasures to the cartouche. Stands firm on a flat surface with no wobble. Hallmarks rubbed but mostly readable. Very feint signs of three initials to the underside.

Some surface scratches as to be expected together with some minor dents all over. Rim and foot both a little out of shape. Hallmarks clear and readable.

Some surface scratches as to be expected together with some minor dents and two more significant dents to the side. Foot a little out of shape. Hallmarks clear and readable.
Newcastle - A George III 18th century silver tankard, mark of John Langlands I & John Robertson I, 1791, of traditional baluster form, decorated with repoussé scroll and foliage around a vacant scroll edged cartouche, leaf capped double scroll handle, gilt washed interior, raised on an engraved splayed foot, 8.5cm diameter at the rim, 13.5cm high, 10.4oztOverall in good condition with no obvious sign of repair. Some minor surface scratches as to be expected. Gilding a little worn. No obvious sign of erasures to the cartouche. Stands firm on a flat surface with no wobble. Hallmarks generally clear and crisp, but compass point obliterating one of the initials of the maker's mark. Sign of a very, very minor repair to the lip near the handle. A very, very minor crack to the rim, just viewable with the naked eye.

Himalaya, and a similar manicure kit, an Amateur Private Club Football Trophy medallion, Kent County Championships medallion, a Metropolitan Police pewter tankard inscribed "Dear Billy 'THANKS FOR THE BLIND EYE' from A relief 1949-1974", a menu card for C.U. Hare & Hounds v. Mr E.J.Holt's Team, Saturday, December 3rd, 1927, signed, a South London Harriers 1871-1971 Centenary Dinner menu, a 1942 Race-Walking Record publication featuring an article by E.J. Holt and a programme for "The City of Melbourne Ball In honour of the visit of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, at the Exhibition Building on Tuesday 2nd March 1954" CONDITION REPORT: Provenance - Ernest James Henry (Billy) Holt, CMG, CBE (1883 - 1972) who for more than 50 years was closely associated with athletics. He started as a sprinter with South London Harriers and turned to the administration side of the sport when he retired, He became an honorary official in 1907 when he was appointed assistant secretary of South London Harriers. In 1932 he became treasurer of the Amateur Athletic Association and progressed to become honorary secretary of the Amateur Athletic Board and honorary secretary treasurer of the International Amateur Athletic Federation. He was Director of Organization for the 1948 Olympic Games in London and was later invited to be adviser and technical director for the organisation of the 1956 games in Melbourne. He also held other roles in the Los Angeles 1932, Berlin 1936 and Helsinki 1952 Olympic Games. In recognition of his services to the sport he was awarded the O.B.E. in 1947, C.B.E in 1953 and C.M.G. in 1957Freemasonry - He was initiated in Black Horse of Lombard Street Lodge, No. 4155, in 1922, Master of Athlon Lodge in 1938 and had coached the long-distance athlete, Gordon Pirie.

The arms for this family are of German origin. The owner of the tankard is likely to be Henry Maurice William OPPENHEIM (1835-1912) who was born in Frankfurt, Germany the son of Simon Lazarus OPPENHEIM by Hannchen SCHIFF. Notably in 1868 he married Isabella Georgina BUTLER (1843-1933) daughter of James BUTLER of Lamberton Park, Queens Co. Ireland. Which suggests that this may be a marriage gift with an assay date also for 1868. In 1856 Henry Maurice William OPPENHEIM became a British citizen and was later of 16 Burton Street, London W.
