A George V silver christening tankard. mark of the Goldsmiths' & Silversmiths' Company Ltd., London 1932, straight sided with flared rim and scroll handle, raised on a spread foot, signed to the underside, presented in the original signed and gilt tooled fitted case, lined in cream satin and green baize, 200.5g (6.4ozt)Overall in good condition with no obvious sign of damage or repair. Some light surface scratches as to be expected and commensurate with age and use. Stands well on a flat surface with just a very slight wobble. Hallmarks clear and readable. No personal engraving.

A George II silver lidded tankard, mark of Fuller White, London 1748, of plain baluster form with applied girdle, fully marked and hinged stepped domed cover engraved with the crest of ARCHER (Linc.), with open scroll thumbpiece, part marked hollow scroll handle, raised on a stepped foot, 19cm high, 691.3g (22.2ozt)Overall in good condition with no obvious sign of repairs. Some minor surface scratches, dents and nicks as to be expected and commensurate with age and use. Hinge in good order. Rim of the cover a bit rippled and rim of the base very slightly distorted. Hallmarks and crest clear and readable. Very minor dent to the handle at the lower base.
A George III 18th century silver lidded tankard, mark of William Cripps, London 1763, of plain, slightly tapering form with applied girdle, monogram to the side, fully marked and hinged stepped domed cover with foliate thumbpiece, scroll handle with heart shaped terminal, raised on a stepped foot, 19cm high, 789g (25.3ozt)Overall in good condition with no obvious sign of repairs. Some minor surface scratches, dents and nicks as to be expected and commensurate with age and use. Hinge a little loose but does not appear strained. Rim of the cover a bit rippled and rim of the base very slightly distorted. Hallmarks clear and readable.
A George III silver tankard, with hinged domed lid, pierced thumbpiece and scroll handle with heart shaped terminal, later embossed with flowers and scrolling foliage, by Peter, Ann & William Bateman, London 1804, 20.5cm high, 23ozFoot rim a bit mis-shapen, with a few small dings to the underside of the base. Minor wear and scratches, maker's mark slightly worn. Lid apparently unmarked.

Sir Francis Burdett: a Sunderland creamware tankard well printed in black with a named and inscribed portrait oval, signed, tiny good restoration to rim above Independent, circa 1810, 115mm.* Burdett was MP for Westminster. He was arrested on 6th April 1810 and committed to the Tower. See Drakard, plate 631.(commemorative, commemorating, political, parliament).
1788 Bidston Hill Old Lighthouse, Liverpool: a particularly early creamware tankard printed in black and enamelled in colours with a view of the building inscribed with explanation and legend beneath, 125mm, restored.* As early as 1771 there was a lighthouse at Biston Hill in the Wirral overlooking Liverpool Bay. It served, by way of flags in specific positions, to announce the imminent arrival of ships, many of them carrying slaves. See The Victoria Gallery & Museum, Liverpool for a learned article upon the subject. This 1788 version is the earliest recorded view, showing 44 varying flags, by1793 this had increased to 58 flags. A similar mug dated 1789 in the Harris Museum & Art Gallery, Preston is additionally signed ‘Printed by Joseph Johnson, Liverpool’.(commemorative, commemorating, maritime).
British Isolation During the American Wars of Independence: a rare creamware tankard by John Warburton of Newcastle upon Tyne well printed in black with a scene of an elegantly dressed lady shouldering a musket whilst being drilled by a corporal and drummer-boy watched over by a monkey holding a flute, signed J. Warburton circa 1780, 150mm, well restored. * Inspiration for this print was drawn from Sayer & Bennet’s engraving entitled ‘Corporal Cartouche teaching Miss Camplove her military exercises’, published on 9th May 1780, which in turn was inspired by the 1778 painting by John Colletts (now hanging in the Guards Museum) at the time of the French entry, against Briton, into the War of American Independence.
