An English oak and ash 'York' tankard, probably 17th c, of tapered form with staved construction bent ash hoops, the fan fluted lid with acorn knop, carved strap and pierced handle, on three feet, the underside inscribed, old handwritten label: "L.T.153 Old English "Peg" Tankard" with five[sic] studs or 'pegs' inside, 22cm h The present tankard was drawn by the antiquarian Thomas Nadauld Brushfield, ND, FSA (1828-1910), then of Chester in 1867. The antiquarian journal from which the lithograph of Brushfield's drawing was published is presently untraced. Captioned as a specimen from Derbyshire, it was described as "2. Peg tankard made of oak hooped with ash 7½[inches]". A copy of the lithograph is included in the lot Good condition

A selection of ceramics to include a pair of 19th century Staffordshire spill vases, a late 19th century Chinese baluster-shaped porcelain vase-and-cover in Kangxi-style, a Japanese imari bowl and a pair of signed Japanese reticulated hexagonal vases Condition Report: The vase and cover are in reasonable condition, no major problems although there is a tiny amount of fritting around the bottom of the foot, the lid appears OK, the two hexagonal Japanese vases appear in good overall order, the flower brick does not present with any issues, the imari bowl looks good with no cracks or restorations. The soapstone pig has a few nibbles around the edge of the face, the blue & white tankard appears a little discoloured to the underside of the foot as expected and commensurate with age. The male of the two spill vases has a small chip to the inside of the lip of the actual spill (orange part) and the female vase goods good - no condition issues.
