A George I tankard, chased in the mid 19th c with a scene of sportsmen and their hounds in a continuous landscape, the domed lid with foliage and scrolled thumbpiece, on moulded foot, 17.5cm h, marked on body and lid by Richard Green, London 1718, with a lip, also Britannia standard, maker AGP London 1857, 25ozs 10dwts (see illustration) The engraved inscription to the underside reads: This Tankard Presented to Mr Wm Feaver of West Camel in Testimony of the deserving Merit entertained of his three years old Stallion Colt called Young Elephant by The Most Noble the Marquis of Landsdown President of the Bath Agricultural Society 20th Decr 1825 ++ The marks to the body rather rubbed, the later chased decoration still quite crisp, a couple of minor tears developing at the upper junction of the handle to the body, not noticeable when the lid is lowered.
