A Hallmarked Silver Tankard, HF&Co, Sheffield 1944, of plain tapering cylindrical form, with large loop handle, 12cm high (370grams); together with an Elkington plated example, of similar design, stamped to the base "The Strand Hotel Ltd". (2)The hallmarked tankard has overall surface abrasions, no visible dents etc. The Elkington example has overall surface abrasions, scratches, dents/dinks, ripple to diameter of rim, indistinctly stamped "PINT".

A GEORGE III SILVER TAPERING TANKARD JOHN SCHOFIELD, LONDON 1795 The flat cover with a pierced thumb piece and engraved with a crest, the body with a scroll handle, reeded bands and engraved with an armorial 18cm (7in) high 841g (30.3 oz) These separate engravings represent the full armorial of the arms of Thomas Langford BROOKE (1769-1815) of Mere Hall, Knutsford, Cheshire and his wife the Maria BROUGHTON (1768-1841) daughter of Revd. Sir Thomas BROUGHTON (1749-1813) 6th Baronet of Broughton Staffordshire by Mary WICKER, daughter of John WICKER. They were married in the year 1790. Thomas Langford BROOKE was the younger son of Peter BROOKE (1722-1783) of Mere Hall, who was MP for Cheshire, by his second wife Elizabeth LANGFORD (1768-1841) co-heir of Jonas LANGFORD of Antigua and Theobalds Hertfordshire. In 1797 he was MP for Newton. On the death of his brother in 1784 he inherited the plantation in Antigua of his maternal grandfather. No evidence of erasure. Hinge and marks all good.
Two trays of assorted china to include: continental, porcelain, hand painted floral trinket box, 19th century single handled tankard hand painted with floral sprays, pair of English possibly Coalport floral vases, tureens etc. together with a pressed glass rummer. With globular lower body supporting a broad and slightly waisted tubular neck with everted rim, D-shaped spur to the forward face, strap handle to the rear with flat-section thumb-pad, trumpet-shaped foot; the thumb-pad and rim with painted bands of pointillé decoration, rim with muti-linear radiating bands, vertical bands to the neck formed with hatched lozenges, hatched horizontal and vertical bands to the lower body and wavy linear bands beneath the foot; old collector's reference '15.76' to underside; See Karageorghis, Ancient Art from Cyprus, The Cesnola Collection in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, no.52, p.38, for a similar tankard. 535 grams, 19.5 cm (7 3/4 in.). William Heath Robinson (British, 1872-1944) 'A Cleverly Thought Out Scheme for Smashing Enemy Tanks on The Dover Road' (1940), signed top right, titled below with pencil inscription 'Line + Tone', inscriptions to the back read: 'Published in Sketch, from William Heath Robinson' and dated Aug 21, 1940, pencil, pen and ink and bodycolour on card, 41 x 31.5 cm, unframed. Provenance: consigned for sale from the estate of a family member of the artist. 'W. Heath Robinson's fertile mind is still busy with plans to supplement our home-defence system. This clever scheme for smashing enemy tanks, should they succeed in reaching this country, is based on the well-known inability of the German to resist a tankard of stein of foaming beer. It will make the natural desire for "a quick one" produce an equally rapid manifestation of Blitzkrieg methods as adapted in this England.'

A Keswick School of Industrial Arts Silver Tankard and Cover, the tapering form with hammered interior and exterior, hallmarked KSIA, KESWICK, Chester 1953, 15.5cm Fully marked near handle and further part marked inside cover. Further stamped ‘Keswick’ near handle. The marks are generally clear. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. The cover is detached and the hinge and top of handle have each been polished to remove the solder. The surface is somewhat bright. The polishing has probably been done to remove the old solder. It should be a straightforward repair to reattach the hinge to the top of the handle.
