A William and Mary Silver Tankard, by Roger Grange, London, 1690, tapering cylindrical and on reeded base, the hinged cover with fluted thumbpiece, the scroll handle engraved with initials, 16cm high, 19oz 16dwt, 616grFootnote: This maker's mark has recently been attributed to Roger Grange (see D. Mitchell, Silversmiths in Elizabethan and Stuart London, Their Lives and Their Marks, Woodbridge, 2017, p. 453).Condition report: Fully marked near handle and on cover. The handle marked with maker's mark only. There is some wear to the marks but they are generally still legible. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. The lower handle junction has been reattached and with a strengthening plate added. There is no obvious sign of thinning but the tankard has possibly been erased. The surface is somewhat bright.

Designed by sculptor Jim Rumph, these tankards were produced by the ceramic manufacturer California Originals in 1978, and soon became very popular. This lot consists of all three tankards from the line in their original shipping boxes, namely Darth Vader (marked #25), Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi (marked #26) and Chewbacca (marked #27). Two of the mugs still have their original tags attached to their handles. There are minor signs of wear to the paint finish on the bottom of each tankard, with creasing and minor tape marks on the boxes.
