Equestrian interest, a presentation silver tankard, by Thomas Bradbury and Sons, London 1912, tapering circular form, scroll handle, the hinged cover with a horse head thumb-piece, the front inscribed 'International Horse Show, Olympia 1912, 1st Prize Open Jumping, Capt. M. Crawshay 5th D.G, on "SUE"', height 19.2cm, approx. weight 39oz, plus a silver trophy cup and cover, Birmingham 1910, by William Hutton and Sons, inscribed 'National Horse Show Association of America, 1910, Canadian Challenge Cup, presented by The Hon. Adam Beck, for Jumping over Course by Officers', the reverse with the names of winners including Capt. Mervyn Crawshay, height 20.5cm, approx. weight 8oz. (2) Capt. Mervyn Crawshay (1881-1914) initially served with The Worcester Regiment, moving to the Guards, in August 1914 he went to France with the 5th Dragoon Guards. Being a skilled horseman, he represented the British Army in jumping competitions at Olympia becoming tournament champion. He was killed at Wytschaete in 1914, and subsequently identified as one of several unidentified casualties buried in a joint grave at Cement House Cemetery, Langemarck.
