A 19th Century creamware tankard, inscribed 'Tho W. Beaumont Esqr, of age 5th November 1813', attributed to Joseph Sewell of Newcastle, 12cms high. History: Thomas Wentworth Beaumont had an interesting political career crossing from the Tory benches to the Whig only to be rejected and had to stand as an independent in the 1826 Alnwick elections which he lost by a narrow margin. He was seen as a radical by many as he stood for the immediate absolution of slavery. He had an altercation with John George Lambton, a keen supporter of Lord Howick, in which Beaumont called Lambton a liar and ended at the foot of Bamburgh C astle fighting a bloodless duel. He was voted in four years later in a much quieter and unopposed election.
