Gugong Bong, an Abuja studio pottery mug, circa 1967-71, tankard form, tenmoku glazed with spiral design to the body, conical based cylinder form with pronounced thumbpiece, impressed seal mark GB, 15.5cm high Note: an almost identical example of the same form with the same spiral motif is in the British Museum, formerly belonging to Sir David Attenborough; Gugong Bong trained under Michael Cardew, and his work is also in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.

A LARGE GEORGE II SCOTTISH SILVER LIDDED TANKARD by William Jameson, Assay Master Archibald Ure, Edinburgh 1731, the substantial straight-sided slightly tapering body with a central girdle, the hinged domed cover with an acorn knop and large leaf-form thumbpiece and an S-scroll handle, all raised on a moulded foot. 24cm high, 46.8 troy ouncesThe marks on the base are clear and well-spaced. No engraving or evidence of erasure. The lid opens and closes well. Some minor age-related wear but generally this fabulous tankard is in very good condition.

The foot is a little misshapen. No erasure. In generally good condition.

These types of pieces were exclusively manufactured for export and typically featured figurative scenes (Harrison-Hall, 2001).
