A quantity of 18th Century and later pewter plates, mugs, measures, a one gallon measure, lidded mug / jug with applied coin decoration, a tankard inscribed "WR Loftus 146 Oxford Street" to the side and bearing an inscription to the base "North Camp Canteen" and various touch marks, "Quart" and the letter "D", various pewter haystack measures (half pint, one pint and quart), bearing impressed mark to base "Austen & Son 94 North Main Street" and a large pewter charger CONDITION REPORTS All items are in used condition with scratches and dents, all dirty. Four tankards are very mis-shapen, although the others appear to be in reasonably good shape for their age. The lidded tankard - glass base is cracked and broken in at least four places, coins are very rubbed and difficult to read, jug front appears to have been squashed and there is a split to the back of the lid and top of handle, and has some crude restoration. Plates and platters quite scratched and rubbed, and some with pitting to bases.

An autograph letter signed from George Bartley [?1782-1858], 'Geo Bartley', 27 Manchester Street, 12 July 1818, to Francis Freeling about his forthcoming visit to USA, a lengthy letter largely concerning a hope for introductions and related matters, and referring to 'the deranged state of the Drury Lane concern has induced me to listen to repeated invitations to visit the United States of America for an indefinite period...', 5 pp., integral address leaf with two stamped (one unpaid) and wax seal, a little soiling, 4to, together with a letter from Henry Gaulburn [1784-1856, Statesman], to the same recipient, Betchworth House, 4 September 1835, concerning the delivery of his letters and their forwarding to this address rather than to Portman Square, his residence, 4 pp., 8vo, plus a pre-printed returned letter 'envelope' with printed signature of Francis Freeling [1764-1836], manuscript insertion giving the date as 8 November 1831 and returning a letter from Jessie Tankard to Mr William Craven, 4to Bartley, a comic stage actor who played Falstaff at Drury Lane, left London with his actress wife Sarah Smith for a successful American trip in 1818. He returned to play roles at the Covent Garden Theatre and the Lyceum. (3)
