Musealer Creußener Renaissance-Krug von 1611 Braunes, salzglasiertes Steinzeug. Hohe, leicht gebauchte, zylindrische, durch Drehrillen bzw. Profilbänder gegliederte Form. Reicher, aufgelegter, überaus fein reliefierter Dekor, dunkelbraun engobiert. Am Bauch ein breiter Fries aus Karyatiden und rechteckigen Feldern mit weiblichen Maskarons, die Kartuschenrahmung mit Roll- und Beschlagwerk, in den Zwickeln gegenübergestellt Adam und Eva mit Früchtemotiven, unterhalb jeweils ein Löwe. Zum Fuß ein alternierender Fries aus Renaissance-Ornamenten und Puttoköpfen, oberhalb ein Inschriftband mit Dat. "APPALONIA ORTLIN 1611". Zinndeckel und -henkel erg.; H. 26,8 cm.Dieser Krug wurde 1893 in Köln versteigert und war bis heute für die Forschung verschollen. Mit seiner Inschrift von 1611 handelt sich nun um den frühesten bekannten, datierten Creußener Krug, gefolgt von dem kleinen, beschädigten Frobenius-Krug mit vergleichbarem Reliefdekor aus dem Jahr 1614, der sich im Germanischen Nationalmuseum in Nürnberg befindet. Anzunehmen ist, dass der bereits seinerzeit kostbare Appalonia Ortlin-Krug für eine hochgestellte Bürgerin einer fränkischen Stadt wie Nürnberg angefertigt wurde, wohl anlässlich einer Vermählung. Hierauf weisen sowohl die Motive des Dekors als auch der überaus seltene Name "Ortlin" hin, der Mitte des 16. Jhs. bei einer Nürnberger Hafnerfamilie nachweisbar ist.
