A George III Silver Tankard, by William and James Priest, London, 1765 baluster and on spreading foot, with reeded band, the hinged domed cover with openwork thumbpiece, the scroll handle with heart-shaped lower terminal20.5cm high, 26oz 2dwt, 811grFully marked underneath and inside cover. The marks are generally clear. There is overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. There are no signs of an erasure or thin area to the body. There has probably been initials erased from the handle.

Minor gilt rubbing on the handles and feet. Circa 1920.

A splendid lidded Thuringian porcelain Capodimonte style tankard relief-decorated with mythological scenes. Lid crown a little instable. Manufacturer's mark.Thüringen. Rudolstadt. Ernst Bohne & Söhne. Um 1900.

Sich konisch verjüngender, glatter Korpus, am Stand gerahmt von umlaufendem, blattfriesartig ziseliertem und gezacktem Fußring. Korpuswandung gegliedert durch gravierten Kupferreifen als Montierung für den schmalen, geschweiften Ohrenhenkel, gefasst von zwei herausgearbeiteten Profilwulsten. Randzone umzogen von meisterhaft ziseliertem, filigranem Kupferband, übergehend in scharnierten, aufgewölbten Deckel, verziert mit reliefplastischen Voluten über punziertem Grund. Zweigeteilte, eingerollte Daumenrast und zentraler, durchbrochen aus plastischen Voluten gearbeiteter, spitzer Knauf. Montierung wohl Nürnberg. H. 21,5 cm. Die Verwendung von sächsischem Serpentin für kunsthandwerkliche Gegenstände ist bereits seit dem späten 15. Jh. belegt. Europaweit gehörte der Serpentin zu den begehrtesten Bodenschätzen Kursachsens. Die ihm zugesprochene gesundheitsfördernde Wirkung trug sein Übriges dazu bei, dass Kunstwerke aus Serpentin als symbolischer Hinweis auf Reichtum und Macht seines Besitzers verstanden wurden. Ein vergleichbarer Serpentinhumpen mit vergoldeter Silbermontierung befindet sich u. a.im Grünen Gewölbe der Staatl. Kunstsammlungen in Dresden (Inv.-Nr. V 392); hierzu Eva Hoyer, Sächsischer Serpentin, S. 37 f. sowie Slg. Jahn, Kat.-Nr. 1 (Form).A rare Saxony Renaissance gilt copper mounted serpentine tankard.
