A fine antique George II Sterling Silver lidded tankard by William Shaw & William Priest, London 1758. Of straight sided, tapering cylindrical form on a slightly spreading foot and with a band of reeded decoration on the lower portion of the body, with a domed hinged lid and scrolling handle featuring engraved marriage initials H T * M. Height 20cm / 8". Silver weight 832g / 26.8 troy oz.

Ω A silver gilt and ivory tankard, three indecipherable marks, possibly late 17th century, with a carved with a carved dragon finial to the slightly domed cover carved with a foliate border, the S-scroll handle with a grotesque mask, the body carved with a medallion of Peter the Great entitled Petrus I Czarus Russorum , the reverse carved with the Imperial arms, foliage between, on a moulded foot, 19.5cm high Peter I (the Great) (1672-1725). A rare Charles II provincial silver peg tankard, by John Douthwaite, Newcastle circa 1675, cylindrical form, the interior with five pegs, the hinged cover with a pomegranate thumb-piece, fluted scroll handle terminating in a shield cartouche, on three foliate capped pomegranate ball feet, the front engraved with an armorial within foliate mantling, height 19cm, approx. weight 23.4oz. For maker's mark see Jackson's, Ian Pickford Edition, Antique Collector's Club, 1989, page 492. The arms are those of the descendants of the Revd. Thomas Thorp, sometime Vicar of Chillingham, Northumberland and Berwick on Tweed.
A First Period Worcester tankard: of waisted form with grooved strap handle, painted with the 'Beckoning Chinaman' pattern of a Mandarin wearing puce, yellow, iron red and blue robes, a smaller figure below and both in an Oriental landscape, the reverse with a large peony and orchid spray, circa 1756-58, 14 cm. [some scratching to enamels].
